Lol Cronin ain’t going anywhere, this team had the second biggest improvement in the entire league from last season to this one after and very closely behind Washington

It is a shame to put Cronin into the same stratosphere with Carbery and only look at standings. Neglect all basic and advanced stats. Neglect the starting points of both rookie coaches too. Carbery's rookie season had a worse GD than the previous season, but Carbery knew how to win games and churn out points to wrestle the team into the playoffs. Cronin's rookie year improved the GD, but only managed to earn only a one point improvement.

Cronin isn't elevating play like Carbery. Cronin's goalies are masking a lot of negative developments in his second season. To me, it's year two of the same shit. To many, it's the first year of acknowledging this shit. Lots of smoke and mirrors if you and Verbeek are making everyone focus only on point improvement.

If Verbeek is keeping Cronin, then I'd fire Verbeek along with Cronin. Remember, Verbeek's handpicked vets up aren't leading the charge and have become a drag. Verbeek is part of the problem too.

You asked for the first 5 words.. I gave it to you... I'm on your team.. cmon man
I mean I wasn't asking about the first 5 words for myself. There's a crisis of (among many MANY things) civics in this country and part of it is people believing that the constitution gives them the right to do whatever they want and the amendments shield them from consequences. That's not how it works but because so very many think it does, we are where we are. So I'm asking you to take just a brief minute to understand what the words really mean, rather than just feel your feeling about what they ought to mean.

If you come to my lawn and start screaming FIRE CRONIN guess what, I'm removing you. Not because I give a shit about Cronin but because that's annoying. And if I do, your constitutional rights will still be pristine.

Ian Moore thoughts:

Maybe this was discussed earlier in the thread (in my frustration at the outcome, I didn't go back and read everything), but what are your thoughts on Moore? I thought he looked very solid. In fact, I thought he looked more poised and certainly quicker than Trouba. But perhaps that's just seeing what I wanted to see.

Aside from one play behind the Ducks' net where he fumbled a bit under pressure, I thought he played well. Other opinions?

Honestly kinda reminded me a bit of Helleson in that he never dazzled in one aspect, but mildly surprised me with his overall steadiness.

Would be surprised if he outright won a spot though - strikes me as someone who could be one of those bottom-pairing NHL journeyman who's good enough to make a team but not enough to be kept.

Bit cagey given this is a game we choked away too. I'd need a couple of games to get a proper sense of the guy.

Probably the worst scenario to draw any initial impressions from given the context of everything about that game.

I think Cronin said he was our best player last night though.

Cro and the boys really picked up their play during this "meaningful" game period huh? What a joke. Faded like a suit from Mervyns.
I believe right when we were "in the hunt" and Verbeek praised the team for being in a position to win meaningful games, they went out and lost like the next 3 or 4.

Well to be fair, Trouba is glacially slow, so it wouldn't take much to be quicker than him.

But yeah, Moore looked very confident, made good reads and never put himself out of position. He doesn't seem like he has a super high offensive upside, but he was able to get shots through when he needed to, and his first pass out of the zone was always accurate.

Thought his passes were quick and accurate, like he puts something special on his passes. Other than that I felt like he played well, couldn't tell it was his first NHL game. Steady and reliable like helleson (someone else made that reference and I think it fits, but is Moore supposed to have a higher ceiling? Just curious)

I think Moore looked fine for a first game. I don’t pass judgement on our young Dmen, especially this early.

LaCombe was nearly gone and good riddance by a lot of people by the time he started putting things together.

He was the New England prep school D scoring leader, whereas Helleson was more of a two-way guy before college. But they were in the same ballpark offensively in the USHL, slight edge to Moore.

Of course now we're years past that, wouldn't put too much stock in any of it. At this point another Helleson with a bit more skating would be just fine.

My read on his ceiling was that it was basically the same as Helleson - solid 4D. If he hits his ceiling, he could play alongside Mintyukov or Zellweger on the second pairing and provide some decent skating and puck moving along with solid defending. More likely settles in as a third pairing guy.

At first glance he seems to have a bit more offense to his game than Helleson. Just seemed more poised with the puck especially considering it's his first game. Most importantly he looked the part physically. If not for Luneau I'd say Moore could play a decent chunk of games next year, but it doesn't appear there will be a lot of opportunity barring a Gudas/Helleson trade.

I really think Gudas will be on the block, if not in the offseason then during the season next year. Manageable contract, only one year left, RHD, and the style of player playoff team GMs and coaches look for.
