I think it's probably more to do with not wanting to root for your team to lose. It's counter-intuitive and unseemly. Now, can you basically check out for the season, and after a loss look at the standings and see you dropped a spot (to a better draft position) and smile? Sure. Like, you know losing is best in the long run, but you don't buy into rooting for it. But after they lose, you're glad they did.The amount of people on these boards that don't agree with tanking (even when you're out of the playoffs) is mind bending on the scale of flat-earthers.
It just would have been an enjoyable moment in a wasted seasonHey, look at that - Rangers get promptly eliminated even after beating us. Guess we didn’t have to knock them out of the hunt after all.
I’m hoping this was enough of a jinx for them to win and pull further away from us in the draft race
Would you rather have Drury or Lou

Nuanced enough for ya?![]()
Rooting for the Isles to lose is just as frustrating as rooting for them to win. The Isles are a middling team not good enough to win but not bad enough to finish close to the bottom. Neither of those things will change without a new GM.Nuance. Respect it.
I understand rooting against your team is tough, but there’s a lot of data showing that the higher draft pick you get leads to more future success.
I understand there’s no McDavid or MacKinnon in the 2025 draft, but if you could get a All-Star/elite level player by losing, that’s much better for any franchise than just missing the playoffs yet again and picking middle of the pack.
So if you look at it from the macro level, rooting no for a sinking/non Cup contending team to lose is actually rooting for them long term.
A new GM might change course. He might have ripped the band aid all the way off and traded Palmieri at the TDL instead of Lou trying to extend him and Nelson.Rooting for the Isles to lose is just as frustrating as rooting for them to win.
