Love Stuart Zender...not sure he's playing on that one...or who might be. Here's one from the earlier days. Great bassist. Very smooth and groovy playing, IMO.

And another old school song from Jamiroquai. Again, Zender with the super smooth bass line. I've been a drummer my entire life. I listen to the bass even more than the drums.

I remember buying that CD in a record store in East Stroudsburg while visiting a buddy there back in my prime days, lol.

Zender is grotesquely underrated. It's hard to think of a bassist more willing to heavily f*** with their tone from song to song to suit the sound. In turn, he's the example for every effect imaginable.

Had a friend start learning bass a year or so ago, and he was asking me how sounds are achieved and why he can't sound that way. He knew of distortion as a broad concept, but that was it. For basically every other subtle effect, Zender tends to have some example that best illustrates it.

For example, who else has a song you can point to and to "ah. Yep. Compression." Probably nobody, I can't think of anything else. Canned Heat, besides being a fantastic song and bass line, is where he compresses that signal with a steamroller and still somehow manages to have feeling come through, instead of making elevator music.

Their contribution to the Roland Emmerich Godzilla soundtrack might be the only good thing about the movie.

Still can't believe they rather chose P. Diddy ruining Kashmir to market it.
