  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Thinking of all of the defensemen who fit Drysdale's archetype, is there a single one who was less skilled/talented?

He's played better over the last 20+ games, but I still struggle to see him taking a spot on any decent team.

21 points in 83 games as a Flyer. Even with the lost time, he’s ending his 5th year contractually. There isn’t a single other player in the league who fits his profile: bad defensively, low scoring offensively, while used as an offensive defenseman 5v5/PP1.

I think we know if he was a 2nd rounder, he’d have no rope. Rookies don’t have this rope. Even with a minor trend up, it’s all sunk cost. They turned the 7th highest pick in team history into Drysdale in 18 months because Bob Murray doubled down. They based their entire defensive drafting strategy across multiple years on the assumption Drysdale (+ York) were their dynamos. The front office that thinks defensemen are everything. They’d turn into goo if they acknowledged that reality.

I’m withholding judgment on the ability of most of these players on the roster until I see them handled by a good coach and his staff. Look at the Wings. Before Mclellan took over their club looked as bad as the Sabres. New coach and things perked up pretty quickly. A similar situation could happen here.
The coach and staff are a bad bunch. Tortorella is horribly negative. We know that Rocky is awful. Shaw might not be that good either.

Photos are back. Gaze into the abyss.

I agree (outside of skating).

DeAngelo is just a relatable measuring stick. I don't think Drysdale ever gets close to 50 points in a season, something DeAngelo did twice.
His straight line skating is fine, but he has zero deception when skating on the blue line and he never beats someone with edgework in short space scenarios. For his archetype, that needs to be his bread and butter, yet he can't do it at all.

He can't do that, can't enter the zone, and is not a shooting threat. I think Zamula has more upside on the PP, honestly.

I don’t know why Shaw is seen as some defensive guru.

This team has developed who above or to projection for that defense core ya know?
