Just realized the Devils picked him, pretty pissed as a Rangers fan but you guys got a good one. Here’s my report on him if you guys want to know more, was at 21st for me.

21. “Daniil Misyul-6’3 176 lbs defenseman who can weave through forecheckers like it’s nothing. I wasn’t a fan of his MHL play but his KHL playoffs impressed me a ton. Misyul is a bit of a hot head and when he’s on, he’s a scary defenseman. His crease-clearing abilities are the best in the class. He was rag dolling KHLers in front of his net, making sure his goalie can see the puck. He’s aggressive defensively, he can lay down big hits and he stands up at his own line, giving the opponent little space to work around him and usually drives them to the boards. Him PKing in a KHL elimination game also stood out. Offensively, he has a big shot and he’s active in getting open and moving the puck around well. When Misyul bulks up, he has potential to be a bull of a defenseman. IQ can improve but I see top pairing upside. I almost put him in at 20 over York but I’m not risking that blowing up”

Misyul was an outstanding pick at #70. He is big and projectable and can skate, his puck skills are advanced for a defenseman who takes care of his own end first as a definitive rule. His physicality is outstanding, especially considering he was a teenager playing in the second-best men's league in the world in the KHL.

What the Devils have unearthed in the third round is the rare physical, defensive-minded D who may possess the skating and puck skills to become a top-pairing player, much in the vein of Marc-Edouard Vlasic in San Jose. Though these types of picks are often overlooked, the fact remains that many mid-round picks become top-tier defenseman in the NHL, while this is very rare for wingers and absolutely scarce for centers. Daniil Misyul was just an outstanding pick at #70 overall.

I love a kid who plays with fire, especially when you consider Misyul was a teenager establishing his game in the second-best men's league in the world. The Devils desperately need a kid who will be willing to decapitate an opposing forward who takes liberties on his goaltender or his teammates.

Fact is, the Devils picked four of the 10 most physical D in the entire draft. Out of all of them, Misyul has the highest skill level and the most upside. He is potentially a rare player who can play a shut-down role and still generate offense going the other way. I'm not certain the terms of his KHL contract, but hopefully we will see him in NJ in two years.

Outside of Hughes, this is easily my favorite pick of this (insanely large) draft class. I would've been fine taking him in the 2nd. 70OA is amazing.

I'd like to get him to AHL too, but he seems to be signed with Lokomotiv until 2022, so I wouldnt hold my breath. Dont see how its any different from someone like Podkolzin.

Edit: He said the same thing in the interview that is on Devils YouTube channel, that he's signed with Lokomotiv for 3 more years.

You can sometimes pay the KHL team to make those contracts go away, it's happened enough times. The player has to want to come over as well of course, and they usually want an NHL opportunity with it.
