"Some people have too much time on their hands to be fanning fake rumours. Johnston was quick to snuff those out, but it did get everyone talking and thinking — or dreaming up trade scenarios and landing spots for Larkin.

Here are seven potential destinations, playing off a hypothetical falling out in Detroit."

Haha I feel there's some contradiction here, or some irony in the least

It was intentional ... admittedly, too much time on my hands

This ^^^
Wings aren’t shopping Larkin, do any club phoning to pry him loose would have to grossly overpay. What team grossly overpays for a guy like Larkin?
Do you feel any of the offers mentioned would qualify as "grossly overpaying"? Or what would it take from those 7-9 teams?

These “offers” are from fans. This isn’t reality.

Clearly an idiot who knows nothing. But let me get his straight Dallas has to pay “Johnston, Hemming, Bertucci and a 2025 first” but Rangers only pay Lafreniere for Larkin as a 1-for-1? Wyatt Johnston is already out producing Laf. The other Dallas option is even dumber of Stankoven, Bourque, Bichsel and a 2025 first. Larkin is a good player not he is not that good.

Adam Fantilli for Larkin.
That's an interesting idea! Columbus obviously has the cap space and Fantilli played for Michigan. Simple 1-for-1 or who needs to add? It's pretty close IMO. Thanks for sharing!

I’d like Larkin in STL, but that trade return would make me throw up.
Arguably an overpayment but, as another poster suggested, Detroit will demand an overpayment for their captain on a long-term contract assuming he isn't disgruntled.

Some of those proposals are gross. Rarely do you see multiple blue chip type prospects packaged together

A ~ point per game center would probably be a rough outline of goodish young roster player, high end prospect, 1st.

He has a full NTC, so that bumps some teams down the list:

1. NYR - Win now and has some nice young players to offer
2. Min - See above
3. Sea - Gourde seems to be aging but is Wright developing fast enough for them?
4. Car - Win now and definitely could use a C like Larkin, what they can offer is the question given where they’ve been drafting.
5. Ott - They have a ton to offer that could make Detroit whole at C. Some combination of Norris, Pinto, Greig, et al. Ottawa with Stützle and Larkin would be appealing. Larkin wouldn’t likely waive to go there however.
6, Cal - Trapped somewhere between tanking/rebuilding and making the playoffs. If they’re not ready to rebuild, this could have some appeal.
7. Phi - Although less competitive than Car, they’re similar to Carolina in that what they can offer might be less appealing than some others.

It would take a massive overpayment by any team, and would unlikely be worth it to said teams. The Wings offense still evolves around Larkin. Deal Larkin and you are looking at tanking for probably another 3-4 seasons. You are also dealing the teams most popular and recognizable player (From a local Wings/ casual wings fan perspective. Obviously Kane would be #1 in hockey circles). That's a major marketing butts in seats hit for the Illitchs.

Wings would likely want a top tier center prospect (ie with equal or more potential than Larkin) and another top tier prospect or mid to high 1st.

It would be very hard to find a team that could afford him cap wise, has that high end young center that they are willing to deal, and is so close to contention that it makes sense for them to deal for the now vs. just waiting on said prospect.

I just don't see it happening unless Larkin demanded out, but I just don't see that until we are talking career twilight if the Wings aren't competing. From an outside hockey salary standpoint, he has the potential to earn way more being the local kid/captain and star player than anywhere else in the NHL. Not to mention all his friends and family being near by. Its one thing to bail for the playoffs for a couple of years at the end of his career but another to basically plan on someplace for 6 years.
