I'm wouldn't read too much into it. His goal will be to get into the NHL. I'd expect him in training camp

Except for 7-8 minutes per game when you want it to be better than the line it’s facing off against. On championship teams, every player, every line has weighted value. All can have a huge impact on outcomes.

I agree but the Oilers have historically barely used their 4th line. I'm not saying that 4C doesn't have any value but on a team like the Oilers that heavily deploys their elite players and especially now has their usual top 6 winger driving a 3rd line 4C has even less value, but the good thing about this current lineup configuration (which I assume will change again anyway because that's what Knoblauch does) is that Henrique is now pushed down to 4C so it's a good problem to have when your 3rd line from your Cup run last year is now your 4th line potentially.

At the end of day its not that big of a deal. But I think it annoys me when they literally could of addressed it in the offseason with a 4C at minimum for free. Thinking Ryan was going to be the 4C was foolish. Its one of the easiest holes to fill and they didn’t even try. And then don’t fill it at the trade deadline when it was obvious in the offseason. Team has bigger problems, just annoys me when they can’t address the easy ones.

I truly wonder if they thought Philp was going to step up this year, which was also foolish.

Bowman was honest in that he said he didn't really know much about the guy, but I wonder if Jackson was banking on him.

We sure will have alot of depth upfront come playoffs when Kane and Frederick are in the lineup. It's going to be interesting to see which players come out of the lineup.

It drives me nuts that on one hand he talks about how he wants to have everyone playing on some sort of special teams so that players don't get stagnant in a game that becomes heavy special teams, but then he starts mixing lines and sitting guys for extended periods.

Need to give guys playing time and time to gel with their linemates. Players need to find their roles on a club, but when you are constantly changing lines up or benching them, you are simply making it that much harder on the players.

I think there could be some logic behind getting everyone familiar with each other for a playoff run, but now they have to settle the lineup and get everyone into a groove heading into the playoffs.

I feel like they were doing that with the defence, because in the playoffs they did end up switching guys around quite a bit, and want to have the option of bumping Kulak to the right side. But now with Walman, I think you just stick with Kulak on the bottom-pairing. I also think Emberson might've played himself off the playoff roster, I feel like Klingberg is going to grab that spot if he can get healthy.

I don’t think they were counting on Philp personally. I think they thought Ryan could handle it or they weren’t really concerned about it. They did the same thing the previous year and they just end up spending assets on Carrick when they could of filled it for free in the offseason.
