Prospect Info: #69(nice)OA - Hurricanes select LHD Alexander Nikishin (Spartak - KHL)

This sit Burns for the playoffs narrative makes no sense. He’s playing too much but he’s still better at hockey than the 3 other RD they have.

If the plan is to just throw Nikishin in (I doubt it):

Slavin-Burns
Nikishin-Orlov
Ghost-Walker

Would be my guess.

I still sincerely doubt Rod benches any of the 6 guys that just played the whole season on D though. It would be the most anti Rod move of all time.,
I wouldn't sit Burns but among our RD, Chatty is definitely better and it's not particularly close this year, I don't know how you scratch him. He's our 2nd best D behind Slavin, although Orlov is close. Ghost or Walker are the scratch options -- Ghost is better but LH so if you want to keep the handedness all "correct" you scratch him. Personally I scratch Walker and run with:

Slavin - Nikishin
Orlov - Chatty
Ghost - Burns

Yeah that is very risky throwing Nikishin right in the deep end immediately, but we saw what Slavin can do with a legit partner in the 4 nations tournament, and Nikishin can play on his off hand side -- the potential reward if Nikishin can hit the ground running is worth it IMO, could be a complete game changer for us in the playoffs. Ghost Burns is a shaky 3rd pair defensively but it's not any worse than Ghost Walker, they'll play relatively low minutes and at least it solves the issue of Burns getting too much playing time.

It's not gonna happen as we know Rod won't do it, but that's the way I would go.

Slavin - Walker
Nikishin - Orlov
Gost - Burns

Maybe?
3rd pair should then play about 6 minutes a game....just kidding.

I believe that pair would be too slow.

btw: I've seen a number of videos of Nikishin playing and scoring on his off side in the KHL.

Edit: Russia expert says Nikishin doesn’t play right side but will move there during normal course of PP

Jeez kids...maybe let this play out a bit before getting big mad?
You talking to the same board that whines about the narratives against our team but was feeding into them on here over the last few days because Nikishin wasn't signed immediately?

Listening to Tulsky on Adam Gold…

- Made the point that he’s neither eligible for an offer sheet nor arbitration at the end of the ELC. (I might have misheard this, though.)

- Implied that they were waiting on SKA to release Nikishin from his contract.

- Visa process is complicated, potentially moreso because of staffing cuts federally.

- Not dismissing Nikishin stealing a job. Unlikely, if he’s just practicing rather than getting some game action.

Full Gold Interview of Tulsky (worth a listen):

Visa process: it's not the federal cuts but more complicated because USA and Russia do not have a relationship.

Thus, when VISA gets issued (ie Tulsky thought no later than Monday so 2-3 days max), then Nikishin has to fly to a country that has a relationship with the USA, make an appointment with the US Embassy and get the VISA attached to his passport. Then he can fly to the USA.

RE; Canada: Tulsky said they have been working on that as well and feel more confident that it could be issued in time then originally thought.

edit: I'm sure the team and agent and working with experts that know how to work the system(s) in USA and Canada too. Let's hope that the folks in the VISA world are Caniacs....

Well sure--but forum rules require me to either be sarcastic or reference food--so I chose sarcasm. I don't make the rules, I just have to follow them.

But yes, with Nikishin coming over and Carrier starting to skate with the team - Jost's days with more than a practice jersey are numbered. The more interesting question is who sits in the playoffs when both Carrier and Nikishin are available?
The inevitable injury in the first round
