Prospect Info: #69(nice)OA - Hurricanes select LHD Alexander Nikishin (Spartak - KHL)

Correct. He'd be eligible for an extension this Summer, though. Wouldn't that be the outside the box move to end all...
taken from the main board, that would be huge.

"I believe the NHL uses the Sept 15 cutoff to determine age of player at signing.

So, he's going to be 23 by Sept 15 still, so players who are 22-23 need to sign a 2 year ELC. 24 and up a 1 year ELC."

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting that he's an RFA this Summer. If he signs and burns the year, he would be eligible for an extension starting in 26-27 on July 1, 2025.

From January of last year:

24-25 - ELC Year 1 (burned in some way)
25-26 - ELC Year 2
26-27 - RFA Year 1
27-28 - RFA Year 2
28-29 - RFA Year 3
29-30 - Eligible for UFA

A bridge for 26-28 makes sense; he'll have a limited sample size of games to justify a long-term deal at whatever number one way or the other. A max term deal starting in that last RFA year would then cover ages 26-33.

My opinion has changed, based on continued aggressiveness and outside the box thinking. I think they'll go for the long-term deal, most likely next Summer.

Is he here yet?

...I recommend this flight

Just found out why there are so many Habs fans swarming in the Nikishin thread.

They’re gonna be BIG mad if this turns out to be valid. Basically sending him to the Russian AHL rather than making his NHL debut when they are on the cusp of the playoffs.

(Nikishin is not eligible for VHL assigment)

Me thinks the Habs fans just like to swarm Cane posts.

It’s not really news though, this was reported as being the likely outcome several weeks ago. And after limiting his playing time because of his anticipated bolt to NA, I’m not sure why anyone would’ve expected SKA to play nice here.

I saw Nikishin at a grocery store in Raleigh today. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Alexander Nikishin may stay in the KHL.
Earlier, information appeared that Carolina is trying to sign the SKA defenseman right now. The hockey player's agreement with the St. Petersburg club is calculated until May 31.

According to Sport-Express journalist Artur Khairullin, the possible departure of Alexander Nikishin to North America is not so clear-cut. He has good reasons to stay in Russia.

The Hurricanes are already in talks regarding the player's next contract. If Nikishin joins the club now, his rookie contract will expire next season.

Under the next agreement, Carolina is ready to offer the hockey player a salary of four million dollars per year.

This season, Nikishin has scored 46 (17+29) points with a plus-19 rating in 61 Fonbet KHL championship games . In the playoffs, he has 3 (2+1) points with a minus-0 rating in 4 games.

The Hurricanes selected Nikishin with the 69th overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

FWIW. The comment section there suggests most think Khairullin is full of shit, unless Russia wants to play war games with Nikishin like they did Fedotov. I don't think that $4M was pulled out of thin air though, and it seems to indicate not only are we trying to get him signed on the ELC but also negotiating the next contract for as soon as this summer.

No Snoopys?

A true Kessel run always ends with two fistful of hot dogs.

Fair, but that would entail running all the way from Western Blvd, across campus, to Hillsborough St.

Which I would not advise after eating at the aforementioned 4 restaurants.

But seriously, I am tempted to tell some impressionable NC State students that hitting up McDonald’s-Bojangles-Popeyes-Cook Out in a single run within a time limit is a tradition and something they should all do once. Even better if they think it needs to be at a specific date and time, so we can watch flocks of college students staggering down Western trying to hold down that last quesadilla.

So the fast food version of the Krispy Kreme challenge?
