Prospect Info: #69(nice)OA - Hurricanes select LHD Alexander Nikishin (Spartak - KHL)

And it's that ironman streak that makes re-signing him, no matter the circumstances, out of the question. (e.g., if there was an option of trading one of our other R-shot D as part of a major forward acquisition and Burns was willing to sign cheap for a 3rd pair role). Borg would be foolish to put them in a position of either handcuffing themselves to the streak or asking Rod to be the "bad guy" in breaking it.
oh 100%. If I'm Burns I look for a team that's a contender in need of an upgrade on their 3rd pairing next season. I think he knows that if he wants to come back here it won't be as a top 4 option as well.

Or, if we really are the darkhorse champs, that would open the door for San Jose. The thing is that Burns can still clearly play, but ideally on a 3rd pair, and we have a lot of options there with Morrow's emergence. The only way I can see Burns returning is if Walker is used as a trade chip in a forward return. Chatfield has a NMC, so very unlikely that he's moved.

if burns comes back, i think it is ghost that moves instead of walker.

slavin - morrow
nikishin - walker
chatfield - burns

slavin babysits morrow while he learns, chatfield covers burns' ass, nikishin gets a solid partner. i think walker has been very steady, and if nikishin is close to what we expect having him instead of ghost really helps walker.

in this situation nikishin and morrow get powerplay reps, with burns as a mentor in practice.

but i'm leaning towards burns is gone.

You may know by now I reject most "advanced stats" and focus mainly on the eye test. Advanced stats can offer some interesting additional data points but I always go back to the eye test. And my eye test is that our D has 3 tiers of players right now:
Slavin
Orlov/Chatty about equal
Ghost/Walker/Burns

And I don't think any of those tiers are particularly close to each other. Feel free to disagree and use all advanced stats you want but that's my view.
I agree with your overall breakout re: season performance.

I'd think Walker has improved as the season has progressed and now is in that 2nd tier.

With re: to Burns, last two games he was very good and if that's the player we will get for balance of the year, that's more than capable.

When is the earliest he could get over here? If there are some regular season games left and our position is reasonably well set (as it seems like it will be), just rotate him in to give all of the other D some rest and recuperation headed into the playoffs (including maybe even playing some on their off side if needed) and then you'd be able to make a much better informed decision.
Right now they are scheduled to play Spartak, the top team in their division. Game 1 is 3/26, game 7 would be 4/7.

sweet, a chance to share that before we got will smith / martin lawrence bad boys, the original idea was for it to be dana carvey / jon lovitz.

maybe it is common knowledge, but when i heard it my brain essploded.

honestly, they should have just filmed it twice, with both sets of stars.

In addition, there was supposed to be Matrix starting Will Smith, Lord of the Rings starting Nic Cage/Shaun Connery and Shrek starting Chris Farley

They're pretty interchangeable. The biggest difference between the two is that Ghost plays on the PP and Orlov on the PK.
What about strength of competition? Even with recent results I'd also be unlikely to sit Orlov over Ghost and I like Ghost.

Weird to me that they switched the C patch for an injury.
They’ve done it several times already this year when Nikishin has missed games. I think it’s largely because it’s Kuznetsov who is expected to take over the C anyways and obviously he’s a bit of a legend in Russian hockey. Nikishin has missed games in previous years and they didn’t give anyone else the C in those games, just for Kuzy this year
