Yeah low expectations. Just wow

Even if they only turn into those types of players, that's still batting way above average. Your expected value for 3rd-5th round picks is essentially bust. If we get some solid NHLers out of them, it's a win.

And do we forget that Higgins and Lapierre were actually critical pieces to the 2011 team? They don't get to the finals without them. They were legitimately useful players.

You need to get cheap, quality depth out of your depth picks. It's better to find ELC bottom-six players than going out and signing Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel and Tim Schaller to multi-year deals. That's what a good team like Tampa does, with guys like Joseph/Erne/Paquette/Cirelli. And sometimes those guys turn out like Gourde, which is a bigger win.

Yeah, passing on Wise seems to be a fantastic choice.

My (very subjective) eye test definitely wonders whether some of what he does can translate to the NHL, but he's now up to 9 points in 10 games with this 2 point night while Wise has only recorded one point with BU. That's fantastic for a 3rd rounder in his freshman year.

But at his frame he's not going to be able to play the Tomas Holmstrom role or maintain the puck down low against the Drew Doughtys of the world, fortunately he seems smart enough to reinvent his game.

Yes, it seems like taking Madden was the wise choice ;)

Ya I would have taken a chance on Wise cause I didn't really know much of Madden. But this is looking like another good pick. I did say that I was weary of players who were considered elite at age 15 who underachieved the next two seasons which was what Wise was.

Like I was arguing with PunkRockLocke before, the Canucks drafted Madden for his offensive upside and I am happy to see Madden producing. This is similar to when the Canucks picked Gaudette where the Canucks felt the player had untapped offensive potential.

Honestly at this point, any US pick that Judd Brackett personally makes, I will 100% be confident that he knows exactly what he's doing, even if the pick looks iffy on the surface.

Adam Gaudette, Jack Rathbone, Tyler Madden. All three were late round gambles that were panned for being reaches and they've all massively outperformed their draft spots.

Judd Brackett is playing high alpine VR chess while everyone else is playing Duplo blocks.

Really don't like this pick considering who was available. Wise, Nordgren, Lauko, Gruden. Madden is not someone I would have taken with an early 3rd.

And Chicago takes Wise immediately after..

Ehhhh. He's 150lbs.

34 points in 50 USHL games isn't bad. Overall not thrilled considering Wise is still somehow on the board.

Edit: ****. This feels like a Brandon Saad moment.

I don't understand Madden over Wise...

Wanted Wise...Not sure about a 5'11" 150lb center who hasn't put up great offensive numbers.

Agreed. So many other players I'd rather have picked. Weak pick

Wise was the pick to be made here. Madden is tiny at 150lb but can obviously grow and put on weight. This draft has been only ok so far- I haven't hated any picks completely but man has he left guys on the board that I'd rather have taken with all 3 picks.

Ouch. Really don’t like this pick, especially seeing Wise go one pick later to Chicago.

So far not a good day at all for the Canucks at the draft.

Way better players in the USHL were still available.

Jack Wise - 7GP 0G 1A 1P

Tyler Madden - 10GP 4G 5A 9P

Once again, the Canucks failed to pick the offensively talented player as per the consensus of HFboard's TOP scouting minds.

and?
I never said wise.
I stick by my opinion of guys who I thought were better like Pettersen with the DU Pioneers.

LOL...thanks for the update. Happy you've found an opportunity to show your ass based on a sample size of less than 10 games into their freshman collegiate seasons. Kudos!
