GDT: #67 ⋅ ANA @ STL ⋅ 5:00 PM PDT

As bad a performance as against Nashville, just this time Dostal didn't bail the team out.

The amount of gliding around and low effort plays looks like a team who isn't playing for the coach anymore. Similar to when RC tenure was coming to a close.

I'll be shocked if we win more then four games the rest of the season.

Well the Ducks came up short again in a meaningful game.

I hope PV learned something/anything about the team tonight playing a meaningful game because I certainly did not.

Ehh I believe my own eyes.. I dont see him over powering anybody.. And thats not his game.. Which is fine.. But he needs to score more.. He does need better linemates..
You're looking for the wrong things with those eyes. Before Terry broke out he physically could not navigate through dirty areas or dangle through traffic because he was too easy to knock off the puck. It impacted his general effectiveness and confidence and he was mostly a perimeter player as a result. Yeah he still gets knocked off the puck here and there but adding more muscle has helped him reach a higher level as a player overall. Is he some elite superstar? No. But he filled into his frame and that helped him become who I'd still categorize as our best forward. For now.

There's more to gaining strength than just overpowering others.

I get all that.. Im not denying the fact that he has improved... But he still has ways to go... I guess I am expecting more for a player making 7million.. Thats just me though.. With the right linemates.. He could be a 40 goal scorer

Energetic but sloppy and dumb is ok. It was like troy terry. He was given a long leesh and he capitalized from it
Given the two, I’d prefer that - what Zegs did tonite. At least he’s pissed off.

There’s been a lot of nights this year where certain guys just skate a bunch of laps around the rink and do not much else.

I’ve been really impressed with Cutter this year, probably more than most people by the sounds of it. of all the youngsters, I’m most confident that he’ll reach his suspected upside and perhaps beyond.

The Terry line is the #1 line to defend against for opposing teams. Not Carlsson's line. Not Mac's line. And yet, Terry is almost putting up 0.80 ppg so far on this inept offensive system. He was around 0.81 before the last few games, which would have meant he is scoring 0.10 ppg more than last season. Terry is babysitting two third line, energy scorers who lack defensive skills in Vatrano and Strome. Last year, Vatrano and Strome were inept offensively without Mac.

Terry is doing this without an actual offensive system. That system is affecting every forward's play.

I think you have your standards too high within a Cronin offensive context. The other factor is we have only one top-6 forward on the team in Terry. You identify this often by saying "with the right linemates", but that's Verbeek's job. But the lack of an offensive coach is holding Terry back b/c Terry can score at a higher rate with Eakins despite the team lacking defense, again, thanks to Verbeek.

We're paying $6.25 mil AAV to Killorn, but I don't see you bitching and moaning to the stars that Killorn isn't carrying this team. Killorn isn't even in the top-7 scorers on this team right now. We're paying $6.25 mil AAV to a third liner for this Ducks' team with Cronin as the head coach. Terry cannot control his coach nor his GM.

Really bad game.

The defense just looks bad without Dumo. Even though Dostal wasn't at his best, still was way too easy for the blues. Dude did a deke and a backhand pass in the slot. Its crazy how much time he had to do all of that, looked like something out of a mighty ducks movie.

The 4th line still looks ineffective. They gotta completely rebuild it for next year.

Killorn, Zegras, Leo need to be broken up, same goes for Terry, Vatrano and Strome. Gotta move some pieces around with those 2 lines.

One positive has been McT and Cutter's ability to put up points and look dangerous with anyone.

That was a lot of reading. I would like to point out. Killhorn is useless.lol.

I don't know that I'd go that far. He's a pretty good penalty killer and he's solid when it comes to maintaining puck possession on his own terms. When it comes to anything involved with creating chances or being a part of creating flow with a 5 man passing play, his play tanks. 19 out of 20 times he'll have the puck on his stick with options to help create or finish chances and he'll make the wrong play.

So Ducks get embarrassed, let’s throw our top producer under the bus, along with our youngest player still developing and has an anchor on his line and only plays for 15 mins per game.

Anyway, Cronin hockey at its finest. Thanks Greg.

I'm assuming he said something stupid in the post game news presser? Along with "I don't know" what else did he say?

I watched Derek’s video of Cronin’s post-game comments. There was nothing offensive at all in that, did he say something somewhere else?

He’s not good, but I put last night’s performance on the team.

No question about it. It’s starting to irritate me how much crowing these guys did for about a month talking about how important it is to play “meaningful” games down the stretch when this is about the 4th or 5th giant egg they’ve laid in that stretch. I kinda want them to go away

Would be kinda funny if Trouba gets suspended for that hit on Kyrou last night and they bring up Solberg to play a couple and he ends up throwing way more hits than Trouba usually does.

The LaCombe/Gudas pair has been overworked and is now struggling. Gudas for playing too many minutes and LaCombe for carrying Gudas around.

I dunno about that.

The previous game against Nashville, the Ducks won 2-1 and conceding only a PP goal. LaCombe and Gudas' 5v5 defensive metrics (lavender and purple shadings) rated the best on the team. LaCombe's TOI was 22:32 and Gudas' TOI was 20:35. The highest TOI on the team for the game was Trouba at 23:16.

It was a bad game for the whole team, including G Dostal. No one on the team could handle passes well last night it seemed, which is a huge contributing factor as to why we couldn't generate more offensive chances. 5v5 Scoring Chances: Ducks 13, Blues 28; 5v5 High Danger Chances: Ducks 5, Blues 9. (Stats from Natural Stat Trick.) The team gave up 4 goals against on special teams, three PP goals against and one shortie. At 5v5, we lost a usual Ducks 2, Opponent 3 result game. We played a team that was hungrier to play meaningful games in Mar and catapulted themselves to tying the Canucks in points for the last wild card spot. St. Louis' last 10 game record is 7-2-0. Clearly, we are not a playoff team.

Not just last night, but I mentioned awhile back that giving them 24-25 minutes a game was going to have consequences. Gudas can’t handle a top pairing workload. I think LaCombe would be more dynamic if he wasn’t on the PK.
