GDT: #66: Ducks Have A "Game" vs Preds 7:00 PM PDT

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Wait what the f*** this is already game 66 nah that can’t be right
Life comes at ya fast.
I know we are only 6points out.. But... Im looking at our schedule.. Yikes... Its not easy.. The back to backs are killing us
It ain't happening. The teams in front of us need to collapse and we need to just about win out the season with, like you said, a really tough schedule. All we can hope for is they play as well as they can and start laying foundations for better play next year with some notable improvements from the kids.
Missed the game. Saw the Ducks won despite being outshot 2-1 again. I’m guessing our goalie carried the team again (weird)?

How did they look?
Bad. The only improvement from last game was they seemed to have more energy and rest but the passing and defense was largely horrendous which contributed to low shot generation. All I can say is it looked like they were trying but didn't look like they were focused.

I thought Leo was just fine, by no means bad or anything, and probably above average as far as this year, but I didn’t think he was great. it was nowhere close to what he can do and as far as his games since the break, it wasn’t one of the better ones. Some flashes here and there - a pretty undramatic game for him overall.
I agree to the extent that he could have played better and made some obvious mistakes but the thing is every single player on our team made obvious mistakes both defensively and in terms of puck management. I thought he was in the mix with a small collection of guys (Terry, Lacombe, Zegras, Nesterenko) who created quality chances more than 1-2 times. Relative to the whole team he was one of the better forwards last night imo considering how sloppy the team was as a whole. I do agree he has some things to clean up and improve on though.

Was at the game with my son and we were aghast at how bad Killorn is, as usual. We must have been a little vocal about it because at the end of the game the woman sitting in front of me turned and said, "I know you guys hate Killorn but he does come in handy once in a while."

She had a kid with her so I didn't reply the way I would have liked.

I think people here forget he is the youngest player on the team , and it’s a good year between the next oldest player.

Criticism has been a little over zealous on him, because he hasn’t broken out like some of his draft peers. But he hasn’t had the opportunity or ice time from Cronin to do so like those peers. So it’s really not fair to compare .

He had better fly next year. Captain dipshit might still be coach though sooo....

Yeah I'm not overly concerned. I would have liked to have seen him be farther along by now but the circumstances are what they are. The point of my post was more that Leo can be productive even in situations where he's not playing optimal hockey. The Four Nations and playing with Zegras seems to have lifted Leo out of his funk. He's still not free of sloppy play just yet but he's playing with enough confidence to create or be involved in the chances that are leading to points.

If he has talent around him, packs on muscle/strength and cleans up some of his inexperience based mistakes, he should be the player he was projected to be. That's my point. That things aren't ideal right now but he should still end up what we want him to be.

Bold statement, but he has been better than Bedard this year. I did some digging. He only has like 4 less ES points than Bedard, and missed 6 games this season. 8 if you count the games he didn’t finish.

Yes, our PP really sucks! lol

This game is representative to me of this team. Talented young players and a team that seems to enjoy playing with each other. The vibes are positive and the future looks bright. The issue is the game plan. How they play as a team is bad, how they make adjustments is bad, and their special teams are bad. All of that is coaching.

It seems painfully obvious that new coaches, a top 6 scoring forward, and a bottom 6 player who can defend/win faceoffs would make this a playoff team. Hopefully Verbeek sees the same thing. They cannot continue to play within this structure because it clearly doesn't work. There's no argument for how they play and why it's effective because it's not. Relying on lucky goals from individual plays and incredible goaltending is not a game plan. It's a last resort.

Verbeek has his job on the line now, is he doesn’t make changes. The changes he doesn’t make, if the problems don’t fix themselves it’s super on verbeek and fireable offenses ie ( 2 straight summers saying he wants to add a top 6 scoring wing) If he doesn’t add this summer and next year we still lack scoring. If he doesn’t fire at least both Thompson and klune yet our special teams suck next season. Rhats on him again etc. I think Cronin is 50/50 leaning towards he sticks with him next season unless a coach he loves becomes available
