Love doesn't matter when his career is over. He's not good enough to be a legend here, and what is most important is having enough money to last him and his family the rest of his life.

That means chasing the money now while he is still playing.

Anyway. Hoping the Olympics inspired Nash to play hockey again. He had his head far up his rear during the last two weeks before the break.

i just hate it when players lie about how they want to be here blah blah blah.... why cant players just say well ill go where my family is more happy..or my family living comfortable is more important...

I don´t think the difference between 6 mill/7 years and 7 mill/7 years makes his famliy suffer :)

Add the money he has earned so far, and most likely anther extension in 7 years (probably somewhere around 20-30 mill if he is healthy), and I think he will be able to survive just fine. He might even not want to lie on his couch doing nothing the rest of his life either :)

Christ, he's a hockey player. After all he's been through, back spasms is the least of our worries. He has arguably been our best defenseman over the past month or so.

Based on Callahan's current salary, of $4,825,000. his take-home pay after taxes per year is $2,379,356.

When you figure in the cost of living and how expensive that can be when you make the money these players do, and the lifestyle you get used too. Their isn't a TON left over. It's not Derek Jeter money by any means.

I am not saying I feel sorry for him by any means, but while I'm sure he has a nice amount from what he has made so far, it's not as much as you think it is when you factor how long he will be actually OUT of hockey (majority of his life) and you need to stash as much as you can now while you're still playing.

It's hard for us common folk to see it this way with our salaries, but when you get to that level everything is relative.

Regardless, 14 million will make a huge difference to the guy. Not to mention, he doesn't earn that consistently over 40 years, like many of us will with our salaries, albeit, usually significantly lower.

His career is going to max out, if he's lucky at around 15 money making years.

That tax rate seems a bit low, I call BS :sarcasm:

I'm glad Callahan's in the lineup tonight, you gotta go with the best lineup you can ice regardless of trade talks. With that said, I do hope he keeps the shot blocking to a minimum.

If you were to make $200,000 a year for 35 years and stash every penny of it away, not spending a dime on anything. You would have saved as much in those 35 years as Ryan Callahan would make in one year of his life under a 7 year/7 mill contract.

If he needs to worry about stashing away money, he is in trouble

I totally agree. It's ridiculous numbers for any normal person. I wonder how every athlete who doesn't make $7 mill a year manages to make ends meet. They probably have to almost starve to death. And do people really think Cally's money making day are suddenly over the day he retires? I'm sure there is plenty of ways he can keep earning after his playing days are over. Coaching, scouting, front office, broadcasting, public speaking is just of the top of my head some of the ways ex-athletes keep earning. It's not like he's not allowed to make a dime after he retires.
 
I wish they would play Miller in the middle. Brass is fine on the wing, and JTM has looked better at C.

That being said, I'm excited to see him back in the lineup and playing with Brass and Poo. I think that line can do something, even vs one of the top teams in the league.

I am guessing that after Cam gives up 5 goals and we lose 5-1 every one goes all suicidal in the trade and post game thread and half of the people who want Danny G signed right now will want him traded. I don't think we win this game (and I don't think this game is indicative of anything).

Ah yes. Hockey's different here.

Glad to have our boys back on the ice. All the games are big now. Best time of the year, hockey wise.

Ha, our salaries that are 1/100 of his. Most would take one year of his pay than 40 years of ours. Significant isn't exactly the right word :)

Anyway, hope for a good game. Hawks offense is just ridiculous. Might not be the best with no Zuc, Staal and Hank.
 
The Blackhawks were not prepared the last time these two teams met. Any chance that happens again? :help:
