When you figure in the cost of living and how expensive that can be when you make the money these players do, and the lifestyle you get used too. Their isn't a TON left over. It's not Derek Jeter money by any means.
I am not saying I feel sorry for him by any means, but while I'm sure he has a nice amount from what he has made so far, it's not as much as you think it is when you factor how long he will be actually OUT of hockey (majority of his life) and you need to stash as much as you can now while you're still playing.
It's hard for us common folk to see it this way with our salaries, but when you get to that level everything is relative.
