The problem is we keep letting guys like that go. McGinn, Foegle, Lorentz, Noesen, etc. We signed Carrier and Robinson to be those kind of guys, but Carrier isn’t healthy and Robinson doesn’t do it consistently.

It also probably doesn’t help that when we DO crash the net, it gets challenged and overturned for GI, even when it shouldn’t be.

Yeah, I think the value of Noesen is a little overstated here, largely because of his wild hot start with Jersey. I liked him a lot, but he was nothing special as a player. He has 1 goal in his last 8 games, and 4 in his last 18 — that last number being identical to Roslovic who is taking the same arc here.

Noesen was just a big body, modest skill guy who goes to the net looking for spare change. Those aren’t that hard to acquire. The problem for the Canes is we keep finding guys like this and making them super attractive for other teams so they get poached.

Why do you think they're so tuned out?

Kinda sad given how avg all the teams in the East are this year. With maybe a touch more effort and talent, they could be cruising even with all the turnover.
What's sad is that if Carolina hadn't regressed so much this year (unless they surprise a lot of us and really step things up soon), I really think they would've won the Eastern Conference Finals this year because, like you said, the East has been average this year.
Start trading, need a shake up
I agree. I think it's time to take a very serious look at making a helpful trade(s).

This team is broken. They really do need a trade to shake things up. Too old, too slow, not talented enough. Just lots of bad hockey
Agreed.
Anyone with half a brain could have seen that coming a guy who’s 35 coming off seasons where he played 16 and 34 games. Last time he played 60 games was 2018 he shows every year he’s not reliable
So stupid to expect Andersen to play any decent amount of games in a season. They were taking the easy route with gambling on Andersen actually being able to play most, or all of the season. Guess what? That's not the player you make that gamble with. He's had so many seasons that he misses a lot of games.
Yeah I'm kind of thinking we need to do something big to shake up the core. Too much complacency, we need a swing big deal for a guy with legitimate term, even if that means trading one of our core guys
Yes, for the right player, I wouldn't mind it. Necas, KK, + for EP, if he's available, is looking more and more appealing. Something needs to change, and getting an all-star tier center at the very least, and potentially super-star tier at best if he reaches 100+ points again as our 2C that's still young, sounds good.

To add to that, in previous years, the two guys that were typically pretty good about getting shots from the point on net for those tips/rebounds were Burns and Skjei. Skjei has moved on, and Burns doesn’t have the foot speed anymore to take those shots safely.

Nikishin should help with that, but we probably still need another shooter, but that could be Morrow next year, who knows

I mean bringing up guys like McGinn and Lorentz and these third 4th liners isn’t the problem how about addressing the glaring hole at 2c and the lack of top 6 forwards in general. Lorentz was almost out of the league this year if not for a pto all those guys you mentioned are easily replaceable

I agree, their role is easily replaceable. We didn’t replace them though, which was the whole point. If our strategy in the offensive zone is to get it to the point and hope for tips/rebounds, having no one who gets in front of the net for tips/rebounds (or at least creates some havoc so it’s not an easily stoppable/blockable shot) leads to situations like we’ve had this year. Where we generate no high danger chances and our heat map shows a giant gaping hole in the center of the offensive zone.

Also, Lorentz is playing with Matthews and Marner last game, if you can believe it.

Crashing the net has the bonus of knocking around goalies and throwing them off their games. The bump-a-goalie thing really does make most goalies more effective across the entire game.

Ya for about 4 minutes and then didn’t see a shift until the third

Necas has a rocket of a shot. I wish he would shoot more plus the team would set him up for one timers more often. It’s too bad that there is no other Cane on the other side to book end the goalies. I had hope for Svetch but his shot has never become the one needed.

With all the talk about how he's seemingly been losing passion for the game this year, I wonder if a different physiological intervention is needed. Find some way to make hockey less of a high stakes job and more like a game for him again- maybe seeing if you can arrange for him to do something like coach youth hockey practices twice a week. Get him with the 10 year olds just out there having a blast. Or maybe find a way for him to take some personal time away from the game entirely, though he'll be doing that over the 4 nations break.

I dunno. Send a message scratches are likely to just put him in a worse mood, not motivate him.
Time for the “slump buster”, a 2 bag date!

I mean we have a #1, he's just been on the IR for basically the entire f***ing season.

But yeah our 3 priorities have to be
1 - goalie that can stay healthy
2 - top pair RHD
3 - move out KK and bring in a #2 C
Right after being on IR for all of last season with a different issue.

We kind of deserve this, hopefully it wakes up the front office that moneypucking the goalie spot is a very unstable house of cards that we really don't want to get involved with.
