People talk about Lafreniere, right? I get that. He's that infectious personality. But like, also, he's not even a top six forward yet. So it's hard to buy him as the heart of the team.
And maybe this is just me and my perception of it, but even if Laf his his ceiling, he'll never be Adam Fox, just like McDonagh was never Henrik Lundqvist. I think that's setting up Laf to fail.
I know people will point to Messier being the captain even though Leetch was a better player and homegrown, and that we were bad when Leetch was captain. But in Edmonton, Gretzky was the captain instead of Messier, and Gretzky is kind of awkward. It didn't stop them from winning four Cups.
