I missed 1.5 periods because The Cold took over and killed me. What's up, what happened
Michkov was great
Tippett and Couts were excellent
EDM barely showed up except for spasms after the flyers scored goals.
Pelletier did nothing to look like a top 9 player (its only one game I know).
Cates got trapped in own zone for 3 minutes because culture
Risto good game and looks healthy for trade.

All the great ideas on these boards. Trade everyone who plays well and/or has value because throwing away your best players for possible future talent makes more sense. Get rid of the coach while we're at it because there's lots of Stanley cup coaches available.

Tortorella's Stanley Cup ring will be old enough to legally drink in the US in a few months.

There was still an active player who played in the 1960s and the WHA during that season.

It has absolutely zero to do with his quality as a coach in 2025.

Not my point. Stanley Cup winning coaches are rare. Whose available that can take us there????
All you guys trashing Torts but he doesn't have the players it takes.

Well, he's destroyed the value of several guys since he's been here. Did you forget that he also led the charge to get the team's current most important player moved off the roster by any means necessary?

It's also quite difficult to attract talent when he's easily the most despised coach in the entire league and players actively don't want to play for him. Marner is a UFA this summer; think there's even a chance in hell he thinks about coming here without audibly laughing?

He might not be at fault for the Cutter situation, but I bet he still comes if Jon Cooper, David Carle, or almost anyone else is here instead. Regardless, "Stanley Cup winning coach" is a meaningless tick in the box for Tortorella at this point and there's likely dozens of candidates not even in the league who would be a better fit to make this team competitive again than him.

I wonder what Dan Bylsma is doing these days. Surely there's gotta be something more to coaching then just winning a cup otherwise dudes like John and Bylsma wouldn't go years between head coaching jobs. Sadly though, because they are Stanley cup winning coaches they will continue to get jobs. Even if they don't deserve it.

What is not rare is Torts missing the playoffs.

Your looking at the wrong end of our situation. We don't have the talent to make a run. You really think a Stanley Cup caliber coach is going to jump at an offer with our talent. The Flyers GM 's of recent times have screwed our team royally. Before Torts. I don't see Torts as an issue. As far as Cooper, he's a bigger prick than Torts. But he's had the talent and that overcomes everything.

Great coach if you have Sid on your team

Who has won with Vancouver?

Like most NHL coaches
Last I checked half the coaches make the playoffs so that is not most.

I can pretty well guarantee coaches that miss playoffs three years in a row get fired in their organization. Good to see the Flyers stick with culture.

When Torts won a cup.
People thought Bush was a good president.
We just met Ron Burgungy.
There were only 2 spiderman films.
Brittney Spears was still in the song busness with Toxic.
My space was deemed cool.
Paris Hilton was on tv

(I will not do a flyers cup won where I have to reference Jaws and the Captain and Teneile.)

We don't have the talent to make a run.

And retaining a coach who a greater proportion of NHLers do not want to play for than any other coach (per the most recent player survey that went around) is not an effective way to accumulate that talent, so Tortorella's Cup from back before the salary cap existed isn't doing much of anything for us, now is it?

A long long time ago I loved seeing Tom Landry trying to win with Steve Peuller at QB and fight and claw for 7 wins. I knew with Landry in charge they never had a shot to win again. Oh Landry had history and super bowls. But he was more old than the antique road show in the end.

It is long past time for the team to fight claw for pick 14. No more stop gap coaches. No more which 44 can they acquire day 1. It is time for an enema.

Are you sure Stanley Cup caliber coaches don't want to come here to coach the talent on this team? Because Torts came here for just that.

You can't have it both ways. Either no cup caliber coaches want to come here and Torts isn't a cup caliber coach, or cup caliber coaches do want to come here, and you think Torts is one.

Pick a lane.

Well the Canucks went from a non-playoff team under Torts to easily in the playoffs the next season after they fired him. It's not a cup win but they did immediately and visibly improve after they replaced him.
