Just finished the game on DVR.

A breath of fresh air.

I don't know if Cassidy will work out long term, or even be enough of a difference to get them into the playoffs, but this change needed to happen.

Claude was a great coach, still is, but when you’ve been at something for so long, but close to something like he has, it's hard to see the forest from the trees, properly critique yourself.

Just in this game alone, we saw the low cycle, attacking the net down low, which is what Claude’s Bruins used to do. Yeah, they gave up a bunch of high quality scoring chances the other way because their defense simply isn't good enough, but they are going to give that up anyways. But instead of feeding the puck back to point, where with a turnover your guys are caught flat footed while their guys are on a already in stride going the other way, you keep attacking, pushing their guys down. That can help your D just as much as getting everyone back and protecting the house, plus you're much more likely to score yourself.

Or, more simply, I believe Julien was overcoaching the team over the last couple seasons, and especially this year, trying to always fix what wasn't working instead of focusing on what can work. He believed in his system too much, especially with the tremendous success he had earlier with this team and these core players, the pressure to live up to that success made his changes reactionary instead of being proactive, made his players play too tight, especially late in games protecting a lead or a tie.

Sorry for the super long post, just grew tired of the black/white hyperbole thrown around lately on both sides. I believe there are a number of factors that contributed to the Bruins downward trajectory, but way less blame. I still think Julien is an excellent coach, but it was time. And I don't believe this is a perfect roster, but they are better than they have been playing, especially compared to the other rosters of teams they are competing with for the last couple playoff spots.

I would settle for him bringing some excitement back and getting us into the playoffs after so much mediocrity the last couple of years . We , fans deserve it !

Watched postgame tonite Never knew Cassidy was a lifelong Bruin fan .

My takeaway from the game was simply the Bruins were ready for puck drop at home which hasn't been the case for most home games the past two years.

Cassidy in his postgame comments went out of his way to say that we as a team and coaching staff failed Claude but now we have to move on.

Saturday afternoon will be Cassidy's first roll of the dice - Does he start Khudobin against Vancouver and then play Tuukka against Montreal OR does he reverse it knowing Rask has had issues with Montreal in Boston.

If nothing else they need to beat Montreal on Sunday night, preferably in a laffer just to beat the Habs in a regular season game at TD Garden.

They are winless in their last 9 home games of this lifetime series at 0-7-2 with their last win over the Canadiens in Boston a 2-1 victory on Jan. 12, 2012.

IT HAS BEEN FIVE YEARS

If they can win the next two games at home before the bye week the team will have a pulse and be rested going to California. Maybe just maybe good things could be ahead.

Auspicious debut for Cassidy.

I thought Vatrano and the two Millers were pretty good in addition to the usual suspects Bergeron, Marchand, and Pastrnak.

4th line scoring against Thornton line to make it 4-2 was great.

Bruins were playing with energy. They were loose, as opposed to tight, and they were attacking. The power play came up huge. Pastrnak is simply deadly when you get him the puck in position to score.

Good start to the Cassidy era. Though it probably won't be for that long, at least it started with a win!

Good win. Interesting game...

Lots of icings. Will be interested to see if that's part of the game plan or something they're missing a connection. And if they're missing a connection, if they have the guys to eventually hit the mark.

Some interesting ice time totals too. Spooner played about a minute less than he usually does. Vatrano played almost 2 minutes less. Colin Miller was close to his average. Just one game, but lot's of talk about his being a new lease on life for guys like Spooner and it didn't play out that way. How many games til deadline? Curious to see how much of a sample size they have to work with before they make a decision on a direction.

PP has been amazing. I think they said it's been operating at 39% clip. That's off the charts.

I also liked the line of Marchand, Bergeron, Backes. Liked the Moore line too. Not sure about the others. The Krejci line only took 3 shots at ES. Spooner's line was -1. Will be interesting to see Cassidy's style here... will he tinker and try to maximize or will he let it ride for another game because they won.

I thought the icings were the game plan. Moore, Bergeron and Krejci were all 60% or better. Moore was over 70%.

Kinda hoping he puts Cehlarik in for Beleskey to get Krejci going.

I personally see him starting Khudobin Saturday.....its a gamble you have to take...which should still result in a win.

I think your right.

It's a back-2-back, Rask shouldn't play both. I'd prefer to see Khudobin against the out-of-conference opponent Vancouver than a divisional opponent like Montreal.

Fell asleep after the 2nd.

Still pretty bitter about recent events, but I'm rooting for Cassidy too.
I'm done beating my head against the wall over certain things.
If they want to be buyers and try to limp into the playoffs, that's their prerogative.

I'll just try to enjoy the games for what they're worth and not worry about the long term.
It does no good anyway.

It's the best course of action.

I'm going back to the way it was in the old days of the 90s/early 2000s where I cheered on the guys in uniform and behind the bench, and pretending like the nitwits in the front office didn't exist.

Missed the game, surprised by the faceoff stats. NHL.com says only Bergeron, Moore and Krejci took FO's at C (and they were incredible). Spooner no faceoffs. Did they manage to just never have a situation where the 3rd line needed to take one? Interesting.

Agree. Plus, Dobby comes in off a good spell in Prov and should be put in soon lest he cools off on the bench and we run a higher risk of having more of the same pish-poor backup performances all over again. Let him in there while he's confident, give him a fair shot to be what we were hoping for him to be at the start of the season.

Jimmy and Frank took the faceoffs for the third line.

It was nice to watch real people playing vs robots.

Sounds about right for a .500 team in February.

Considering a Nor'easter (or blizzard) going on, 10k spectators is not all that bad.

I enjoyed that too. More offensive hockey, more intensity. The downside is that there will be way more panicky moments on D in the future. But I don't mind that, if it means beating strong teams like SJ 6-3. :)

Claude is that you recommending D changes?

Haha, far from it. I think it was really just more of mistakes I was referencing with passes either to outlets or trying to leave the zone. I though the D skated well tonight though, and it got better as the game went on.

That Pasta one timer top shelf goal on the pp was just filthy. A pocket Ovi.

Downright dirty dynamite. And he showed some really soft mitts (as Jaffe would say) on his second goal which was really nice to see, cause that comes with confidence.

What struck me was the quickness of the passing on the PP and the obvious effort to keep the puck low during ES offensive zone time. Hope they are fit enough to keep playing that way.
