The 06-07 roster probably had a couple game days that looked like this pile, at least. The game after we traded Foppa to Nashville, we ran this out there, and there are at least three people on this roster I didn't remember were ever Flyers (I don't have line combos or pairings):

Dmitry Afanasenkov
Kyle Calder
Jeff Carter
Ben Eager
Todd Fedoruk
Simon Gagné
Denis Gauthier
Derian Hatcher
Randy Jones
Sami Kapanen
Mike Knuble
Alexandre Picard
Joni Pitkänen
Mike Richards
Geoff Sanderson
R.J. Umberger
Scottie Upshall
Alexei Zhitnik
Antero Niittymäki

Creating lines solely based on the listed players:

Gagne-Carter-Knuble
Sanderson-Richards-Upshall
Calder-Umberger-Kapanen
Fedoruk-Afanasenkov-Eager

vs

Konecny - Couturier - Michkov
Foerster - Cates - Brink
Richard - Laughton - Hathaway
Deslauriers -Abols - Gaucher

Neither is ideal but I choose the group with Gagne, Knuble, Umberger, and young Carter and Richards. I like guys like Foerster and Brink but I can't see them remotely nearing the primes of Carter or Richards (who broke out shortly after 2007) at any point. Oh, and Upshall was fun for a time, too. There's no notable forwards in today's group beyond the first line.

If I remember correctly, Richards got to have Sami Kapanen and Dimitri Afansenkov as linemates. Carter got Sanderson and Umberger. Good times. Good times.

Once again roster players vs cap dump and waiver fodder. Not the same thing
Your right, but I also find it hilarious that Frost and Farabee have the red carpet rolled out for them in Calgary with a private jet, while the Flyers' additions get "I don't phone people" from Torts and are stuck in an airport in another country for a week.

A better comparison of 2 franchises you couldn't make.

One prides itself on being a premiere destination for players.

I think I've watched just about every team outside Flyers games besides Vancouver and Washington. Which is stupid because Washington has to be the most interesting team in the East right now. How the hell are they getting these results?

-Thompson
-Progression by McMichael, Protas, and Strome
-Ovi scoring like he's 20 again
-Improved defense
-Carbery=good

I don’t know what Washington’s cap situation is going into next year or what their plans might be, but I can absolutely see the Flyers offering Chycrun a massive deal because he’s big and you know, his dad once played for the team.

They are nothing if not predictably idiotic.
