I think Trouba is better than Pionk. But only barely. And that’s the issue. 8 mil vs. under 4 mil. 8 years vs. 3 years.
It would have helped if our entire defense wasn't being held together by electrical tape by the end of that playoff run and/or being coached by an idiot.
The D for this team is really, really young. Theres a ton to like there at the moment even if we desperately need to find a top pair caliber LHD and get rid of Staal.

Shesterkin, Kreider and Fox. Kreider would have had to get the hat trick to be No. 1--just 2 goals one of them being a game winner wasn't enough. Fox didn't get any points but he was really really good. The top two lines---everybody was solid.

He's a lot better than 'just barely' better. Even if he was only a little better, marginal upgrades cost a lot when so much of the league is so close in talent.

The most realpolitik option for us would be for the King L to be traded. But that's not happening and shouldn't be happening.
I also would like to say that the days of goalies playing over 60 games are over. So even how great Igor is, we can't rely on him getting 60 games. Should we be giving those relive games to Lundqvist next season (I'm fine with it), but what after that? do we actually have good goalies at Hartford to back it up?

The first 2 lines controlled the game tonight. Chytils was good in spurts, the 4th....................
Out of the 40+ shots not many were dangerous, which isn't a shot at Shesty, he was very good.
The 4th line Lemieux-Howden-McKegg were f***ing horrible tonight.
Fast handled the puck like a hand grenade tonight, Panarin could have had 5 assists.
Can we get better breasts behind Quinn please?
