THIS DATE IN FLYERS' HISTORY: February 5, 1976

MacLeishDL.jpg

The Flyers unloaded 55 shots in a 6-1 win vs. Vancouver. However, the win came with a heavy price as superstar Rick MacLeish was lost for the rest of the season and playoffs due to a ligament tear in his left knee after a collision with the Canucks' Harold Snepsts. MacLeish, who was the NHL's leader in points during both the 1974 and 1975 post-seasons, had a game-high 12 shots on goal and was the game's #3 star. Ken Lockett made 49 saves for the Canucks who lost for the 14th time in 15 games in the Spectrum.

So if Raffl and Laughton are ready, will White or Vandevelde be benched?

Right now, it seems as Raffl's conditioning is an issue due to the excessive weight loss during the lung infection. Laughton stands a better chance of returning, at least through today.

If both Raffl and Laughton return Thursday, and that is not definite, then there was no indication today based on maintenance days given to selected players.

Grossmann could also return. Laughton and Grossmann are both on IR. The demotion of Straka today leaves two active roster spots available (currently at 21).

Next practice is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ET in Voorhees.

lol @ dummy throwing Grossmann in when this team finally doesn't look like a disaster.

I want to lose this game with Grossmann being a -7 since that's about as advanced a stat that Berube can comprehend.

Chasm of Sar (north of Montreal, Qc)
Craig Berube's favourite sequence:
  • Grossmann hammers the puck down the ice for an icing
  • Couturier line comes out and battles the puck down to the opposing zone, creating an offensive-zone faceoff
  • 4th line onto the ice!

I'm not surprised after reading how bad his illness was.

http://www.courierpostonline.com/st...michael-raffl-still-lengthy-illness/22684303/

Even the TV got old while Raffl dealt with an illness he'd never experienced before. He had fluid in his lungs and spent most of the All-Star break in bed. The only time he left his apartment was to go visit the doctor.

"So much fever and so much pain in my lungs," Raffl said. "I didn't even want to watch TV anymore. I just wanted to be someplace else, to be honest, the last few days."

lol yeah...not at all. They're both bottom pairing, but at least Grossman can shut down players in his own zone. Colaiacavo hasn't done anything to warrant a starting 6 spot.

Do you have evidence for such a claim?

So Raffl skated on friday, saturday and sunday... and now has pneumonia?

When they were talking about fluid in his lungs, I knew he had to have had pneumonia. My guess is that he took meds and thought he would feel fine and but instead got dehydrated again.
