I think if Larry's reports are correct that the Rangers are sellers regardless of their borderline playoff positioning, Gorton is very aware of what it takes to win a championship and that we are nowhere near it. Everything about this year is certifiably a burn year to make adjustments this off season. We've had an acceptable record to not result in Vigneault's outright firing in-season. If Gorton has always been determined to retool like he did with the Stepan trade, Girardi buyout, high draft picks, holding onto Staal for one more season, etc. there's no reason why he would give up assets to make pointless trades to temporarily improve our team for the sake of aesthetics. I'm sure the message is clear with the NYR BOG that this is a transition year but tickets will still sell.

Of course I'd argue that Vigneault should have been gone after last playoffs but it's also tough to do that when there are no A+ candidates to sign long term or fill in short term AFTER Vigneault got to the second round (off of Henrik's dominating play against Price)
