Gretzky scoring 50 goals in 39 games in 1981-82 is one of his most famous records

It's the quickest ever to 50 goals from the start of the season. But it's actually not the quickest 50 goals.

In 1983-84, he actually scored 50 goals in 34 games.

This happened from the December 14, 1983 9-4 win against the Rangers (game 32) to the 12-2 win against the Canucks on March 11, 1984 (game 65).

@MadLuke did a great job with this sort of thing a few years back, unfortunately some of the tables are now all messed up and effectively unreadable due to the site migrations, but if he still has the program he can probably easily get us the full list of least games to 50 goals at any stretch of the season

yeah, like i said...non Gretzky.

Hull was a 50 game span, not a 50 in 50
Sorry, I blanked on the non-Gretzky part.

But we're not just talking about 50 goals from the start of the season, right? Just 50 goals at any period of any season (overlapping seasons?). Hull did 50 in 43 during 1990-91, just not from the start of the season.

If non-Gretzky and if only from starts of seasons, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong), Neely's is the fastest to 50.

I wonder if Neely's 50 in 44 holds up as the fastest non Gretzky 50 in 50
If we go by teams games, it is Lemieux in 46, Hull in 49, Hull in 50 and Bossy in 50 I think.

Neely 44 is in player games.

In played by the player games (if we start from the first game they play in a season) it is, Lemieux and Neely tie at 44, Mogilny at 46, Hull at 49.

It's not 50 goals - but for a stretch of high goal-scoring in few games, Lemieux's 93 comeback is always impressive.

Big return game with 2 points....then slow for 2 games, only 1 assist total...so 3 games in, wondering if he should have simply stayed away longer to fully recover...

But from game 4 of his return:

17 games, 29 goals, 53 points
Pace of 143 goals and 262 points over a full season.
