Byram was great today. Not dynamic, but very safe high end type of d man. Makes great decisions under pressure, makes smart passes, knows when to hold on or pass the puck. This kid is special, him and Makar are going to compliment each other very well. The Neidermayer comparisons are legit and we are going to have the best d core in the nhl in the very near future. The avs are back and I can’t wait for the season to start.

Byram is more NHL ready then Makar was 2 years ago. We all knew Makar needed an extra year or 2 but Byram seems to be more ready then Makar was when he was drafted. They both will play for us this season, I have no doubts about it.

Is Byram going to be ballsy enough to wear #4 when he makes the team?

Hope he does wear #4 which would look really good. The number is available anyways and rather a player with a bright future than a scrub. Don’t think it’ll happen, expect him to choose his own path and select #44.

Byram continues to impress me how vocal he is on the ice. Look at him when an opponent enters the zone. He always directs the backcheckers towards their assignment and then he takes care of his own. I know people want to see the Girard-Makar pairing again, and that might be a thing to start the season until Bowen establishes himself if he stays up with the team, but I can't wait to see what Bowen-Makar can do together followed by Girard-Timmins in a couple of years.(hopefully?).

Oh and I have no problem with Bowen taking #4.

I listen to BSN podcast and for the most part its alright, but then Haefele starts saying stuff like he'd trade Byram for Svechnikov and I'm not sure if i should listen to that dude anymore

I like 44 more than 4

Anyways I think we should let him marinate another season. Some aggressive forechecker will blow him up next season at his current size/strength. Also we don’t want that high confidence to take a hit.

Of course AJ would trade Byram for Svech, you'd have to be an idiot not to...but why on earth would Carolina even consider that?
