you just made me think of something...Dungy built that team that won the SB..but they didn't get over the hump til they replaced him with Gruden...i wonder if the same needs to be done with Bowles

Rich McKay built those teams. Dungy had the luck to build an entire scheme around Derrick Brooks' ability to do what no one else could. They won when they got a coach worth a single shit.

Licht is very good at his job, so I trust him to navigate it. Like you said, I think Coen eventually gets it. It sure feels like a coach in waiting contract.

Out of our entire prospect pool, we would be doing well if it yielded 3 or 4 regular NHLers. Not even impact players, just players you can play in the everyday lineup, including the 4th line or the 3rd pair.

That's how low ceiling our prospect pool is.

Luchanko cemented that they're pretty focused on drafting for depth.

When Briere said we aren't going to have a lot of talented players, just one or two and then a lot of depth players, he wasn't joking. The actions back up the words in this case.

No. This is the Fletcher effect, when you trade a 1st and (3) 2nds, you're going to be a little thin.

Even the G trade didn't help, b/c 1st got deferred to this summer and Tippett isn't a prospect. So Barkey is only player out of that deal, Bonk and Grans the players out of the Provorov deal.

The Gauthier player traded a player who is still considered a prospect for one who has "graduated."
And the 2nd won't be used until this summer.
You do know that we were all here when you defended these things in the past and said how great they were, right?

Didn't say they were great, they were what he was hired to do by Holmgren.

He was told to win now, so he traded a 2nd and 3rd for Braun, Gudas for Niskanen, and signed Hayes.
Probably would have worked for 2-3 years if Covid didn't come along, even better if Lindblom and Patrick stayed healthy.
But had an expiration date built in.

Now the Risto and TDA moves reeked of desperation, but that was after things started to implode but no one in the cabel would countenance a rebuild.

We were there. Cut the gaslighting.

Can't help but wonder if he's turning it up because he knows the more he shows out now, and the more he justifies a contender paying DB's price, the more chance we'll see Playoff Risto this season.
Maybe. But maybe he's just happy and Torts has fixed him and made him into the player he was supposed to be before Buffalo broke him (and then he had his health issues). Maybe he likes it here.

I know a lot of people here hate Torts and they bitch and whine about the Flyers but the players seem really happy and the reaction at the end of the Detroit game shows me a team that is all on the same page and they are playing for each other. It's a good thing to build off of.

No one forced Charles Entertainment Fletcher to overpay for Ristolainen, that was pure Charles. Suggesting someone else is responsible for that is nothing more than deflection.

He could have used those assets to trade for an actual good hockey player, like Eichel, who was traded 4 months later.

But no. That trade is how he thought he was improving the team.

Why do you think people don't like John or the direction of the Flyers? Care to enumerate us with some facts or you just going continue to ignore all of that?

He was supposed to be a dynamic offensive dman when the Sabres drafted him, and he's now a safe stay at home bottom pairing dman with almost zero offence to his game. The Flyers made him into a useful player, but also the exact opposite of what he was supposed to be back when he was a prospect.

Weird how this keeps happening

Well, Seeler is our best offensive D-man this season, 1.26 pp/60. Go figure.

Risto is becoming more active in the O-zone, walk, then run.
They wanted him to work on his defensive fundamentals first, then ramp up his offense.

Now the Risto and TDA moves reeked of desperation,

Before all that, what was more desperate was Chuck "The Cuck" Fletcher getting on his knees in front of AV and dumping Ghost and a 2nd and a 7th for nothing because the coach had an irrational hatred for a very good player.

Other than MIchkov, there isn't much to build off of here. Nothing that is happening under Tortorella or that happened last night is going to be a part of this team getting anywhere. Everything that is happening now is just delaying any chance they have. Playing for each other, culture is all nonsense.

Its the same thing as when Snider mandated Holmgren to fix the goaltending. He didn't tell him to sign Bryzgalov

The entire tone after drafting Gauthier was one of mission accomplished. Which is INSANE.
It's the same now. They think the drafting of Michkov represents go time. They're just waiting to get the cap space. Then it's sign, sign whatever they can. Add a center or whatever they can. It is inevitable what they will be. There is not a shadow of a doubt.
