The other issue with the McCann-Simon and Kahun-Rust mismatches is that you're talking, generally speaking, about lesser scoring line talent compared to other contenders. So, it really exacerbates the 'flow' issues when playing a really good team.

The lesson from Jake-Geno-Rust is that if you stack a line for Geno (or Sid) with the type of talent or close to the type of talent other top lines have on the wings, then Geno (or Sid) will be the trump card.

It's why I'm so keen to see JR add TWO wingers. One for Sid-Simon and one for Geno-Rust. Stack BOTH lines and then ride the crap out of them.

EDIT: As I said, now, it's like you've got two diluted lines. Sid and Geno can't carry that like they could 10 years ago (and even 10 years ago it was too much to ask when playing a top defensive team).

In a more limited role or for a short stint with Letang, yes, he's been a lot better this year.

But, asking him to be a top pairing defenseman . . . it's too much, and truth be told, it puts Letang is a bad spot too.

Yeah, this is exactly why I think he has been bad. He's not a top pair D and he's being forced top pair D minutes. He just can't do it, and the longer you make him do it, the worse he does. They really need Dumoulin back.

For a shift.

I like Kahun-Malkin-Rust more than McCann-Sid-Simon, because Kahun is a better fit on his line, but if you look at their whole near 9 games together, yes, they have some excellent shifts and have had some monster periods, but they're bleeding a lot of chances and too much of what they generate comes off the counterpunch as opposed to sustained possession.

I keep hoping that the reservations would be put to rest, but I'm not seeing a line that's going to be a big difference maker in the playoffs.
