Chicago essentially won a cup because their management was willing to push the envelope on contract design to benefit their teams cap situation but not here in NY.

What players are you talking about? Hossa? Sather gave Richards the same type of contract. The difference is that Hossa is a better player and has better players around him.

Hossa will be 42 when his contract ends. The last 4 years pay him 1 mil each. You think he's sticking around for that? But there's no way chicago is going to amnesty him this summer. They'll get hit with recapture when he retires. If he retires in 2017, chicago will get a cap penalty of 4.275 mil per year for 4 years.

That contract was signed under the former CBA is it subject to recapture ?
 
We've seen some good things from this team the last few games. The selections are over. No distractions boys.

A win tonight would be huge. A point would be good. Big test and indicator game.

I think the Rangers have 2 hopes in this game. Lundqvist or whoever is starting in net plays lights out with us getting the bounces and Chicago takes us too lightly. We're not as bad as our record IMO (not much better though) but they clearly outclass us.

Agree. Agree. Agree. BUT - as awful as that major penalty call was - he HAS to stay on the ice.

Hossa signed his contract in 2009. Richards signed in 2011. Both under the same CBA, both used the same loophole, though Richards' contract was after the Kovalchuk ruling and abided by the new restrictions. Both are subject to cap recapture.

Headed to the game tonight. Hoping we don't get drilled. I just want the game to be enjoyable with a chance to win/tie in the 3rd period. If we get even a point, I'll be completely thrilled.

id take this at least it was losing 10-1 to a good team like the Blackhawks. imagine if the Rangers were to lose 10-1 to a team like Buffalo..


if it means Del Zotto will be gone, id take this 10-1 loss. get rid of this distraction already
 
If we don't belong in the same league as this team, then we definetly need to be sellers!

Dont get too hung up on line numbers, AV runs a much more even rotation of players than the norm (he has this far at least).

And this game is on paper very very scary.. so lets surprise everyone and win it cleanly :p:
