That was Friedman saying Briere asking for a 1st meant he really didn't want to move him.
Then he corrected himself after someone pointed out that Briere did the same thing with Walker last season.
The 1st is the starting point for negotiations, Flyers will sweeten the pot by taking on a bad contract or throwing in a 3rd rd pick or 2nd tier prospect in return
I would be shocked if the Flyers traded Laughton.

I wouldn't be. By moving him to 4LW, and playing Lycksell ahead of him, they're basically saying he's not in their future plans. He fell off defensively at center last year, and while he's adequate at LW, Torts has already said he likes Couts at LW, and they're not giving up on Farabee. Numbers game.

Risto is a tougher decision, he's a key component of the current defense, if you trade him you need to go with Andrae - Zamula in the short-run, and while Zamula has played the right side, that would weaken the defense if they're in the PO hunt. They might wait until summer unless someone makes them "an offer they can't refuse."

You don't seem to get it. That's what they love about Laughton. They can move him around the lineup and he won't complain. Shows up and plays and still brings all the intangibles that they so ridiculously overvalue. He still averages more ice time at ES than Cates, Poehling, Brink and Hathaway
Ristolainen is not a key component of the current defense. He is a mediocre player best suited to the 3rd pair that is on a bad contract. That they paid a ridiculous price for. He is not part of the future and they should take the first decent deal they're offered and try to limit how bad they take it on the chin.

Risto is playing 20:33 a night, he's definitely a key component of the defense.

Laughton is tied for Poehling for 10th in 5x5 minutes since 11/25 and Brink should soon surpass him.
Nor is he a great PK guy.
That makes him expendable, especially if they like what they see from Lycksell.

Risto is second best defenseman, who is better behind Sanheim? Zamula is flat out slow, our worst defenseman.

Andrae, for one. The guy they refuse to play for reasons even the omniscient ones would be baffled by

Being the second best dman on this squad isn't good, btw. York and Zamula have better overall positive impacts by the numbers too. None of the numbers are particularly good really, but those two are at least slightly positive while Risto is not.

The defense in general plays to break even and hang on, and they do a pretty good job of it, as boring as it routinely is. But that's also why a slam-dunk net positive player like Andrae stands out and has such impact.

Here's the 5v5 TOI from the game before the deadline last year:
