I just want the Flyers to play even like they did against Vegas, LA, Toronto and not lay an egg like Dallas.
Going toe to toe with good teams is good for the soul.
Winning or losing has come down to the goalies.

5x5 play does matter because it's the best test of basic talent.
PP and PK can be developed over time, but if you can't skate with good teams, a good PP is unlikely to save you.

I'd take Vegas off the list as an outlier. I think the Tortorella mandates happen to align weirdly well with them. Even if Vegas wins, the Flyers give them fits in their zone for half the game

You still believe that the Flyers winning comes down to the goalies. How the 5 on 5 play shakes out depends on how motivated the higher level teams are to face the Flyers. When it counts, the Flyers can't skate with good teams.

Do you believe that with someone like Rocky ?? He had talent on his PP in San Jose and he has had some talent here. Talent means shit when you are being coached to do dumb things.

Torts discussed Drysdale in his pre-game presser.

Tried to avoid dissing Anaheim, but said he should have played in the minors, when they got him he was "raw." So without saying it, dissed Anaheim's development process. Basic gist was we knew Shaw had a lot of work to do.

Knows Drysdale is never going to be a defensive player, wants him to play as a rover, needs to be more aware of the ice on both offense and defense. It's a work in progress.

I don't think this roster is a bottom feeder, and I said as much in the beginning of the year. 16 of the 'normal' starters are legit NHL-quality players. They are all serviceable.

So, yes I agree the Flyers would be in a better position if goaltending was better, but you can't just waive away the horrible PP like it's nothing. Not scoring on PP's (and to a lesser extent not preventing goals on the PK) also affects the score of a game, which affects winning and loosing. There's some evidence out that that suggests not being able to score on your power play has more of an impact of making the playoffs (Thanks for that read @JojoTheWhale) than 5v5 play.

Edit for clarification - That's not exactly what the article stated. It did not compare power play to 5v5, it compared power play effectiveness to likelihood of making playoffs.

Since I see them as rebuilding for a couple more years, I see no urgency over the PP.
First things first, build a top ES team, then tweak the roster/coach up players for the STs.

Given talented forwards, you can quickly turn a PP around, either Drysdale or Andrae develop or they get a PP QB, and you can find "Ghost" types in trades or in the 2nd rd of the draft, 3rd pair/1PP types. Guys you shelter, but give them O-zone starts and let them create.

PK guys can be obtained fairly easily as well and stashed on the 4th line. Poehling is a good example, Jett should be an immediate fit, as much as Laughton and TK have worked well together in terms of SH goals, they're not a great combo overall. I want fast forwards on my PK who can pressure the point - instead of collapsing in a box and trying to block everything.

If it's that easy to make adjustments and get good powerplay results, why has the Flyers' been at the bottom of the league for nearly half a decade?

"Just a Fantasy", best song from Glass Houses album

Simple as pie, you could take 5 random skaters with proper PP coaching and achieve better results than what Rocky Dennis gets.
