If this is the LaCombe we’re getting from now on, I officially feel good about our defense moving forward.

LaCombe looked this good and aggressive in his first and only rookie tourney. He actually laid a Gudas Smash on an opponent entering the OZone. Guess he needed a year to adapt. Seems fitting b/c he took the slow route in college too before his whole game took off.

What a difference it makes when everyone is taking meaningful shifts with intention.

By the way, I don’t think Hellesons’ hit was bad. Watching it over and over, it was Zary that shifted back to avoid the hit to the body and Helleson just followed through. Refs got emotional and thought they needed to give the game misconduct to avoid more fights.
I think Zary should have gave up the puck and spun off the hit personally to reduce the impact. Easy to say when you aren’t flying down the middle of the ice. It’s a tough call (bang bang play) but I can agree with a penalty. I don’t know if it was worthy of a game misconduct. I’m glad they gave Calgary the 2 minutes and we didn’t get screwed there like we have so many times in the past. Replay looks like the primary point of contact was going to be through the body not the knee. I don’t think there was intent from Drew’s side. Hope Zary is okay as well.

offense is predictably lost without terry
In the Carlyle days, if the twins weren’t playing we played greasy dirty hockey with a lot of traffic in front of the net. And we tried to manufacture goals that way. Sometimes I wish the modern ducks would take a page from that playbook. Especially the young guys

Well I mean we’ve already injured of their best young players for likely a couple of weeks so they better start scoring now

There’s zero justification for Etem. The learning curve argument only applies if there’s some natural ability or potential which he displays none of. He’s not charimatic and doesn’t know what to say. I hope the Samueli’s are watching
