Confirmed with Link: 4 year extension for Michael Rasmussen (3.2 AAV)

It is a bit...odd? how we have so many huge guys (Ras, Seider, Ed, Soder) who could probably pack on at least ten more pounds but who never do (less so soderstrom). Maybe they've tried in the past and it hurt their skating too much, but these guys are tall have builds that even at 200-220 still look lanky. Seider at 220, Ras and Ed at 235-245, I think they just become way more difficult for other teams to deal with.
As guys get older, it becomes easier to add muscle and weight. They're all still in their very early 20s, well everyone mentioned other than Soderblom and Rasmussen, who are big but don't skate like Seider or Ed.

I think it's about time we move on from this guy.

Not a great penalty killer, not that physical, just really does not bring much to the table... aside from being tall.

Let's send him out for a mid-late round pick and see what Mazur, Danielson, Lombardi, etc can do.
He's had such a bad season. Has seemed out of place anywhere he's been in the lineup. I'm still willing to give him a chance to rebound though.

I would like to motion we officially call him by the appropriate moniker; Trashmussen

He will be called this until he scores a 3 point night or until the beginning of next season. If he still sucks after the first 10 games the name gets extended until the end of the next season.

If he is traded at any time the name stays for the remainder of his career.

All in favor?

Assmussen has been my go-to for a while.

I remember reading a few articles in terms of a lot of guys being vegan or pescatarian. Something inclined towards recovery in season and it becoming more popular around the league. It has been a few years, but I sort of do wonder why we have so many guys that play at their current weight. I know Landon Ferraro once said he lost a ton in skating when he put on more weight so he had to play lighter and maybe that is how Rasmussen feels. But I really wish he would at least try the Edvinsson avocado summer diet this year. I have to believe with more muscle mass he isn't as unbalanced and easy to knock over. I guess it is everyone's choice, but I always thought he would play around 240 and he has stayed at 220 for a long time now.

With Ras it seems more about balance and being strong in his skates than weight. Seider is able to hit guys like he does because he’s so strong in his skates. Ras just falls down.

More muscle mass in general would not do it. His upper body does not matter that much. His lower body is the problem. More leg press days would not hurt, but mainly it is about balance exercises like this...

Henrik did this til the cows came home, that is why he was so effective in the corners even at 5'11.
But maybe Trashmussen is just a lost cause. Some ppl fail DUIs without having consumed anything, cannot balance to save their f***in lives...

I still contend that more size and yes functionality in strength would make a big difference. I was more worried about the skating than that aspect of his development so I am surprised that never made big gains. He also is to the age where he should have his man strength in terms of late muscle build and fill out.

I think he is heavy enough to play a physical game if he wanted to. I think it is just a mindset you either have or don’t have.

I mean look at Malkin, he has played his whole career at 190 something lbs, and he can lay guys out when he feels like it.

Malkin is 6'5" and 210 lbs, but I agree with your overall point. You look at how someone like Dominic Shine plays and then realize he's generously 5'11" and 180 lbs.

Guys like Mantha and Ras just don't have that innate sandpaper to them and it's rare for someone to develop it. Lilja did years ago. He basically learned how to fight at the NHL level and got a concussion for his troubles.

Maybe he has gained some weight in his older age (and grew… ? … lol)

Throughout his career I have always seen him listed as 6’3/6’4 and 190 or 195 lbs.

But yeah, either way, point is the same. Rasmussen doesn’t need to be 240-250 lbs in order to be a physical presence on the ice.

The Assmussen and Trashmussen takes are extremely misguided.

Michael Rasmussen is a player that makes this team better. From 20-21 through 23-24, which were functionally his first 3 “full seasons” (playing 86% of games) Rasmussen averaged a 34 point pace while primarily being used in a bottom 6 defensive role. He helps this team.

While he may never be the physical beast many of you wish him to be, he is consistently one of the most physical and aggressive players on this team.

To be fair that’s a very low bar so I’m not calling him a monster out there or anything like that. I would also like to see some more consistency and aggressiveness in his physical game and better puck protection but he still brings more of that than any other forward on this roster.

Lastly, he is “only 26”. While not young per-say, men often don’t reach their full strength/mass until their later 20s, Or even early 30s.

There is a reason bigger guys are often late bloomers.

Tage Thompson was Rasmussen’s age when he finally had his breakout season. To be clear, I’m not suggesting we have Tage 2.0, but I can definitely see big Ras taking another step, even if it’s not a big one.

A 30-40 point, huge player, that is fairly effective in a checking role and has positional flexibility is a good piece to have on your roster.

If you can get over the 9th overall draft selection he is a solid player. I think most teams would be interested in him if he were available.

I can understand the opinion that Rasmussen is a valuable if unremarkable player, but have to disagree about him being consistently one of the most physical and aggressive players on the team.

I would say overall he is less physical and aggressive than:

Raymond
Kasper
DeBrincat
Chiarot
Seider
Edvinsson
Petry

Motte
Soderblom
Watson
Shine

I would love to be wrong but just don't see him ever taking another step in development at this point. It's be great if other teams would be interested in him because he's a good asset to include in a trade.

I think his biggest issue is that he just isn’t quite quick enough / think the game fast enough to be F1 on the forecheck which leads his overall skillset to really not contributing much offensively. He looks better when someone else is first in on the forecheck and he does an alright job of continuing the cycle.
