This stat basically proves that the leafs were never an elite contending team. It’s reassuring to know the losses were valid but it’s kind of sad a bettter team couldn’t have been built around such great offensive first round talents.

Every year we get to hear about how good the team that beat the Leafs did in the playoffs.

Oh wow, look at that, another one went to the finals. It appears the road to a shot at the cup is paved through the Leafs. I guess it's meant to soothe fans into believing that if the Leafs had won, it would have been them in the finals instead.

And if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle.

How many of those teams actually won the cup anyway? Just Washington. All the rest lost.

I really hope we aren't expected to be satisfied with them being almost as good as the team that lost in the finals.

Good Lord.

Have standards really dropped this low? This, after being told the team was a contender. How much they have improved every year.

They keep getting better, but the results stay the same.

They keep losing to the team that loses in the finals every year.

2019 - Toronto losses to Boston who lose in the Stanley Cup finals
2020 - DNQ
2021 - Toronto losses to Montreal who lose in the Stanley Cup finals
2022 - Toronto losses to Tampa who lose in the Stanley Cup finals
2023 - Toronto losses to Florida who ... ???
And what did dubas learn?

Just provide this fact to whatever teams we meet in the playoffs next year, and maybe they'll concede the games to us.

Upon further reflection, this curse actually goes back a lot further:

-1993: Los Angeles beats Toronto in the Campbell Conference Finals, and go on to lose to Montreal in the Finals.
-1994: Vancouver beats Toronto in the Western Conference Finals, and go on to lose to New York in the Finals.
-1999: Buffalo beats Toronto in the Eastern Conference Finals, and go on to lose to Dallas in the Finals.
-2002: Carolina beats Toronto in the Eastern Conference Finals, and go on to lose to Detroit in the Finals.
-2004: Philadelphia beats Toronto in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals, and goes on to lose to Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference Finals, who then go on to win the Stanley Cup.

You forgot to mention the closely hard-fought 2001 eastern conference semifinal series between the Devils and the Leafs - that year New Jersey defeated Toronto in 7 games and then went on to lose to Colorado in the finals.

Since the 1967 expansion, the only teams that eliminated the leafs in the playoffs and went on to win the cup in the same year, were the 1972 bruins, the 1975 flyers, the 1978 canadiens, the 1979 canadiens, the 1981 islanders and the 2000 devils.

If the Devils won in 2000, then '93, '94, and '99 aren't part of the 'streak'.

There is no easy path in the East. What it means they aren't close because those teams bombed. The truth is Keefe can't create the culture needed to win with this group. One of big 4 need to go and we need a young stud dman. Plus Woll has to go psycho. Plus Bunting does leave a hole at wing.
Barring a huge trade they will not win next year. O Reilly may not even be back. Right now this team is weaker re run.
