Yeah, that’s some crazy bad luck… wonder if bet99 or 365 had odds on that?

It ultimately means nothing but it is a bizarre stat. You can even expand on this and say how 5/7 of the teams that beat us in the playoffs went on to lose to the eventual Cup Champions.

2017 Washington beat Toronto but lost to eventual champs Pittsburgh
2019 Boston beat Toronto, lost in Finals
2020 Columbus beat Toronto, lost to Tampa who won the Cup
2021 Montreal lost in Finals
2022 Tampa lost in Finals

2023 Florida TBD

And we finally lost to the potential runner-up later than usual this year too!...I could really go for Toronto being in a/another SCF!!!

At best it just shows how soft our core is. They'll have flashes where they can win a game here or there, but they struggle to elevate their game for 4/7 wins.

They finally did it against Tampa and then reverted right back to same old same old.

Only TO fans and medias will come up with useless crap like this and think Leafs are good, our boys are great, let’s run it back because sooner or later, they will get he bounces…..

5 out of the last 5 years, Toronto was not good enough to win the Stanley cup. Losing to a cup champion or a finalist shouldn't be looked at, as some sort of trophy or accomplishment.

It's a neat stat, but the most important takeaway is that this team wasn't the best team in either of the last 5 years. I'm not going to pretend like this means something, because it really doesn't.

That one easy series where not everyone get bruised and beat up seems to be the formula.
The effort to get past the Leafs shows them the level of buy-in required to advance!

I don’t actually believe either narrative, just, you know, it’s that easy.

I was waiting for this thread. I honestly don't know how to feel about that stat. If you take it seriously, its frustrating. Doesnt matter though, we never have enough juice to get to the finish line, always a better team. The hockey gods have smiled upon Florida this year.

I mean what Bobrovsky and Tkachuk are doing right now is down right magical. It would be nice if it could be us sometime.
