I figured this should have its own thread. Mods delete if I'm repeating.

I saw posted that USA's defense looks to be:

Slavin / Fox
Werenski / McAvoy
Hanifin / Faber
Sanderson

Unreal. I'm racking my brain to those early 00s Team Canada defenses with Niedermayer and Pronger to come up with a comparable roster. There are better defenders out there like Makar, but top to bottom that is an unbelievable top 7 D.

US wins gold and Fox demands a trade out of NY back to Carolina for 2 2nds.

Admittedly, I don't know a lot about the background of this tournament. I realize this is in lieu of the All Star weekend that seemingly no one (including the players) cares about. Does this tournament have any bearing on Olympic selections? I'll be curious to see how serious the players actually take it. I wouldn't imagine we see a competitive tournament the likes of other international tournaments but hopefully I'm wrong.

Do you mean what nations qualify for the Olympics? I think it has zero bearing.

Do you mean what players are selected by national programs for the Olympics. I'm guessing it will have a lot of weight because it's rare you truly get to see best-on-best. The IIHF Worlds certainly isn't best on best when it's during the playoffs.

I mean player selection.

Puljujärvi's dog Jaffa

Heiskanen ded. Hakanpää ded. Ristolainen ded. They all ded and Jaffa might be canadian.

I'm expecting nothing but victory from this roster.

I would honestly decline lol, screw that dude. he's overrated anyways and even aside from forcing himself to the Rags is a total bitch on the ice.

Honestly not overly excited for this, I don't think the players will actually take it that seriously. I don't think it'll be all star game level of not caring but it's not gonna be anywhere near the level of intensity World Championships or Olympics are. We'll see, maybe they surprise me. That said, being in Boston I already do have tickets for the Canada/Finland round robin game so definitely looking forward to see Jarvis and Aho/Rants, as well as seeing McDavid and the other big guns play together. Should be fun but I don't expect amazing intense hockey. May go to the championship depending on the teams and ticket prices.

I'm guessing they might skate reasonably hard but more or less avoid the big hits designed to hurt someone. It will be interesting to see how it actually plays out.

It would be so damn funny if Marchand signed here in two years when he's a UFA, assuming he doesn't want to retire. Boston is pretty much headed for a painful rebuild as soon as this summer in all likelihood, and I imagine he'd want one last shot at the Cup. I could see it happening too. He could be the annoying version of Justin Williams.

As for the tournament, I just hope and pray that no one gets injured. Whoever wins wins, but please everyone stay healthy.

Marchand is a UFA this Summer.
