NHL game times are never puck drop, they're broadcast start. Like most sports. One thing I really appreciate about MLB is that they give you the first pitch time up front.

They're actually quite precisely timed, just not at the time they give. IIRC, it's 7 minutes past the hour for most regular season games, and 27 minutes for stuff like opening night ceremonies (or this).
