The league are obviously at fault for not allowing teams to carry a sufficient taxi squad for the inevitability of injury and illness.
The PA didn't want bigger squads. If they only have 18 healthy skaters, that's fine. You can only ice 18.

The problem is it could snow ball. Cirelli has been less than great. Why not fly in a fresh Mark Scheifele or Tom Wilson and say Cirelli is hurt?

Again, let Quinn be on the taxi squad and hope USA Hockey has enough integrity not to play games - Quinn should not be allowed to play / practice unless someone is genuinely injured.

I think a subtle difference is that Scheifele and Wilson were legitimately passed over during selection. Everybody knows that Hughes would've been on the team if it wasn't for his injury status at the time. Not saying that it should hold weight, but I think it's worth noting.

I don't. The rules are the rules.

...so the difference is Hughes is a more valuable player...that's how rules should work??...

If players are hurt I don't care who you replace them with. Does an NHL team not have the option to call up whoever the hell they want in season?

As long as it meets the overall roster total it shouldn't matter. This would all be moot if they just went with a 25 man roster like we get every single year at the World Championships..

The difference is that we wouldn't be adding a player that we were freely able to select before, and didn't. We're not just correcting a poor roster decision.

And, by the way, I think that once Harley was brought in for Theodore, he should've now just been considered one of the 7 defensemen, freely able to play too, so this isn't just me siding with country.

But, I agree. Whatever the rules were when the whole thing started should be followed. I'm more commenting on the rules that were set up being dumb and not very well thought through.

Most tournament have deadline - so teams don't fly in fresh players at the last minute. To me : The rules are the rules and it should not be allowed. The U.S. and Canada has 6 healthy D-Men and they should play.

...I totally agree that the "rules" were idiotic and a 25 man roster was the way to go...

The fact that he was on the originally roster should pull no weight - just like I don't think flying in Pietrangelo should be allowed.
This isnt meant just for you but for overall my thoughts..

If a team is in the Stanley Cup playoffs, what happens roster wise? They expand. Teams add dozens of players within their organization to be eligible for the playoffs. Why on Earth is that OK and it isn't here? Every country should have access to their entire talent pool to be called upon whenever same as an NHL team can do in the playoffs.
