So the last two best on best WJC’s during lockouts you lost, the first best on best at the NHL level since Russia you lost. The USMNTDP has changed the footing of this rivalry coming on the heels of the Miracle on Ice and the 96’ World Cup. Major events generations of US players reference. Be happy it took almost 4 decades to get here, that actually says a lot about Canada. It’s time to stop making excuses and acknowledge we are not inferior and the Canada B team can beat everyone crap has been dead for a while.
I’m not Canadian. More just musing from a U.S. perspective. I’m sure regardless of how the rest of four nations plays out, Canada will be a tougher opponent. I guess says a bit that Canada doesn’t have the same comparative depth it once did.

Hear me out.

Depending on how the early game tomorrow goes, USA could lose, and by lose I mean pulling the goalie late, against sweden, and deny Canada a shot at the finals.
Imagine the rage.

That's the position Canada finds themselves in.
some of the biggest loser thinking I’ve ever seen. f*** that. I want part 2 in the US then parlay the fire into the Olympics.

Guarantee those guys are hoping Canada murders Sweden tomorrow

I don't think anyone in that locker room wants anything other than to get to beat Canada again to win the tournament.

Not that I needed this game for proof but Brock Faber is a gamer.

Also said before game 1 that Larkin should be 3c over Miller. I wasn't sure if it was my Wings bias or not, but he def looked better.
Larkin pushed and earned more icetime. Love his game and he came through. It's great to see these inner stories of how a player puts themselves in a position to help their team. Faber and Hanifin also wrote a new story after game 1 performances.

It's pretty hard to complain about the play of anyone through 2 games, but this D core has been phenomenal.

Faber and Slavin have been the standouts, and that says more about them than it does about guys like Werenski and Fox.
McAvoy has been better than Faber. His hit on McDavid was huge and seconds later Eichel transitioned up the ice to Guentzel.

Faber was definitely better but still does show some nerves out there. He has moved past Fox for sure though.

The USA is on a roll and uber-confident. I doubt they take a dive to avoid Canada.
100% agree and you don't need to give Canada any additional motivation for next year.

That was a fantastic game for 2 periods, order line generational but the 3rd period was no where near as entertaining but overall game was terrific.

Canada isn't going to lose to Finland. Going to have a field day with that D Corp.

Slavin was absolutely more impactful than Faber and to a degree carried the pair.
I agree on the defensive part, Faber also broke the zone with beautiful short area passes all night in my opinion. His ability to basically take away the forecheck (I know this is huge to say) reminded me of Lidstrom. His ability to pick out the right pass be it short or long but just continuously quickly get it off his stick really stuck out to me. That was actually the biggest hallmark of Lidstrom’s game and how he constantly tilted the ice and dominated games for two decades.

Tonight and it could easily get flipped Thursday. Not one player has ever won a BOB at the highest level for the US, while Canada has 3 that have. First win BOB in in 4 tries.
But unlike previous generations most of these guys have beat them in U18 and WJCs. I know it isn’t the highest level but there are cup winners in the group and guys that have done a ton of winning.

Most of Canada’s roster has similar construction, it is what happens when you take a decade off in a younger man’s game.

Sure the US can win this event, but my money is still on Canada for Olympic Gold 100% and 50\50 for 4Nations.

Yeah, US won Jr BOB, in 2013 and 2021, but Miller\Trocheck are only guys playing from 2013 and Faber and Boldy only players from 2021. That's not an extensive enough group to point to.

They are closer for certain but I remember 1996 to 1998 and IMO that '96 group
was better than this US Group. Now that said this Canadian group isn't as strong as the '96 Canadian group or 2010\2014 groups.

I don’t think the 96 team is better than this team. Again Canada is clinging to Doughty and Crosby for this argument, McDavid has never won a best on best either…

I think this is a flawed argument. Unless Thompson or another Canadian goalie can really emerge they enter that tournament severely down in that department. They don’t have a better d-core. In a one and done any one of the big five teams can win so not disputing that. However, this isn’t the 90’s, the USMNTDP has accomplished the objectives of the program it has put them on a far more level playing field.
