I don’t think it changes too much not having a banged up Hughes. Still have a pair of Top 5 offensive D in Fox & Werenski.

Absolutely they can ad offense but the can’t do what Hughes does when it comes to possession in the offensive zone.

Losing Hughes is a huge loss, I'd give the reins to Werenski and let him run with it. He should do fine with the season that he's having.

My sentiments as well.

Losing Hughes is a big blow, but Werenski is having such a great season that I think you can slot him in as the #1D and he will look great.

Especially since he's going to be playing with a bunch of other elite players.

It makes perfect sense, it would look so bad as the captain of the Canucks to miss four games and then suddenly be fine for the four nations when we’re fighting for the playoffs.

That being said if this was the Olympics, he is 100% playing

In the tournament's defense, only Pietrangelo pulled out for no reason.

There's been surprisingly little of this. Losing Hughes hurts, but I'm confident it's for a good reason. Sanderson isn't in the same class but is very good in his own right, and has been playing very well lately. Could be worse.

The Olympics will be at a similar time of year and (almost) everyone loves the NHL in the Olympics.

Do I care about this tournament? Meh. Having said that, the final legs of the NHL season can drag and I prefer this to a stupid all start game.

Losing Hughes sucks, but I'm happy they went with Sanderson as the replacement. He's been outrageously good the last month or so and one of the biggest reasons Ottawa's in a playoff position right now. You still have Fox and Werenski as elite PP QB's.

The olympics are played this time of year to, it’s something nhl players will have to prepare for regardless

Interested to see how lines shake out. I think M. Tkachuk-Matthews-Hughes is a natural combo and will be the first line.

Right decision for Q. Hughes. He will be an Olympic lock (obviously) and I’d imagine you’ll need to physically restrain him from making the trip to Italy.

Sanderson is a solid replacement. Right choice imo.
