My biggest takeaway is that Brock Faber's game-sense in the defensive zone is the best in the world. To be out there in that role, at that age, with his small number of NHL games-played is remarkable. Every level he has jumped into since being drafted he just becomes a difference maker, it's hard because nothing jumps off the table immediately and people have a difficult time projecting that to higher levels, but now he is playing that same dominant defensive game at the top of the mountain. His brain just processes the game better than just about anyone.

I had no idea how good Slavin was and have an absolutely brand new opinion of him. And that opinion is that he is a god damn beast.

Surprised Matthew's didn't score.

I was not a fan of Marners game the entire tournament, but what can I really say? The scores the OT winner in one game and two primary assists in the final game. I have to stfu.

I was completely and utterly wrong about Binnginton, I was so missed he didn't take Thompson. I'm an idiot again. Cooper knew exactly what he was doing with Mitch and Binny. That'd why he's the coach and I'm some random on the internet lol.

I was just sad seeing how much Sid absolutely loves playing for Canada and Bettman robing him and us of two more chances at gold.
 
My take away is just imagine how good a healthy MacKinnon & Crosby would be together? Av's have to find a way to get him.
I was surprised at how easily Hughes was bumped off picks, and how invisible he was if he wasn't. Matthews wasn't much better.

Imagine this thing being played at a time where half of the guys playing aren’t injured or all of the best players can actually play because they aren’t too injured.

  • I found it difficult to cheer for the Tkachuks even when they were on my team.

Most of the distain came from the fact we disrespected them as a country and friend. The rest of it was because we're finally seen as a legitimate rival in hockey. It wasn't always this way.

"We" didn't do anything. Some public figures may have done something, but that does not excuse the actions directed toward individual Americans.

If you think someone is acting in a bad way, be better than them, don't go after uninvolved people.

It's "we" because competitive sports is tribal. I don't excuse the behavior, but I understand it. To your point, I really liked how the Boston crowd started singing O Canada to drown out the few of our yahoos who started to boo.

I don't understand it but that's just me.

I agree about Boston. Not so sure about the woman singing O Canada... That seemed more disrespectful than someone booing.

If I was at a game and someone started booing a teams anthem near me, I would tell them to stop it. The team and their fans have nothing to do with their government.

It's hard to believe you don't understand HOW Canadians could feel that way, when it's been explained repeatedly by people on both sides of the border. As opposed to just you not feeling that way yourself, or never being able to have that reaction if you were in their position.

What I was talking about was is the insults of Canadian hockey fans to American hockey fans that have nothing to do with politics. I am not going to bring up every instance that I saw but many references to Americans being stupid, uneducated, arrogant, self centered, classless etc. etc.

The question asked was what surprised me and the personal insult, not banter, is what surprised me. I understand that you may not like things that our government does, but don't make it personal.

I have a feeling these messages will probably be deleted, but really I am not talking about politics, I am talking about interactions between two countries people and how we need to be nicer to each other. I would say the same things to an American if they behaved the same way to a Canadian or Russian during a hockey game.

I guess your strategy is to badger me until I agree with you. Sorry but I just don't agree that it's acceptable.

End rant.

As someone said above, it was your head of state that said it, who was voted by the majority of people in your country and who agree with the sentiment. You can't act like the victim when the people of a country who were just threatened to be annexed boo the anthem of country whose president made that threat. Mind you, this is the same country whose fans would SING the American anthem if mic got off or something. THINK about what changed between then and now regarding the political climate of your country.

As for the actual topic at hand, PENALTIES:

There were no like no penalties. This may have to do with the fact that there were so few games and players didn't want to cost their team the game, but it's more likely to do with the insane skill level.

Great players don't feel the need to cheat in order recover or make up for a mistake.

I thought cirelli was the worst player on the ice often. Not sure where you saw he should have been there.
 
"Fringe" players who should be locks for each team in Italy now based on their versatility up and down the entire lineup and how hard they are to play against, and just how f***ing awesome they were all tournament long.

Canada: Hagel
USA: Larkin

Players both teams seriously need alternative options for

Canada: Marchand, Parayko, Sanheim
USA: Hanifin, Nelson

A healthy Quinn Hughes also kind of makes Adam Fox a bit awkward. Like on pure talent he's one of the 4 best American defensemen, no doubt. But what does he really offer if Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy are healthy and in the lineup? 7th dman based on roles/needs IMO.
