Marner comes up with 2 huge assists when all the marbles were on the line.

All the Sens did us proud in this one.
Has Brady played any better ?

What a game. What a finish.

2 very evenly matched teams .. Binnington deserves a lot of credit

Jarvis wasn't up to this level. I like the player but he just wasn't up to it. Bennett and Marchand should have been played more.
Stone looked too slow.

Marner made great contributions to the offence!

Bennett was a surprise roster addition; but he proved to be a very good addition and yes should have been played more.

I thought Marchand looked slow; time marches on.

Stone is slow compared to the top players in Canada and the USA and other national teams. He is still smart though, but at this level his skating is not up to par.

I agree about Jarvis.

Still laughing at the "fair weather fans" who didn't think much of this Tournament....

Congrats Team Canada, that was one hell of a battle. :win:

How does not getting hyped up about the tournament make someone a fair weather fan? I don't think you're using that turn of phrase properly...

Despite me still having a number of criticisms of how the tournament was put together ( A two week break in crunch time of the NHL season kind of sucks, injury potential for key players on NHL clubs is a big risk, and no russians, Czechs, German meant lots of star power left on the outside), I'll readily admit the final was entertaining hockey.

I think people who expected this to lack intensity and be more like an exhibition game we're kidding themselves though,

agree on Stone... I didn't think Marchand looked slow he just didn't get enough ice... he is capable of a bigger role.. maybe I'm just a Marchand fan

I'll admit I was completely wrong about this tournament. I figured the players would want to put on a show but it would be more of a pre-season/exhibition type vibe. Last night felt more like the the Canada Cups of the 80s or the Olympics. It was outstanding and the political tension just added a whole other dimension to it. Can't wait for Olympics Feb, 2026.

I was skeptical going in .. but that changed 5 minutes into the 1st game and I couldn't get enough of it and didn't miss a minute ,

Give me this over the all star game BS every year.

I'd like to see a team Europe addition and maybe with Trump saying he'll be removing sanctions add Russia

It's certainly a better product than the All star game, but I'd prefer this to be an offseason tournament, I'd hate to see teams miss the playoffs because of injuries to their stars during this tournament.

that is a downside and particularly for the teams in the position of trying to make the playoffs like the Sens that are thin on depth to overcome their losses

They need to keep this a rare event. Maybe substitute it to the all-star stuff once every 4 years to keep it fresh.

They are doing the World Cup in February every four years, so basically every two years we will have international hockey as it’s in between the Olympic years.

I don’t think we see Four Nations again. Might just scrap the ASG as a whole, though I don’t know what they’d do in years without Olympics/World Cup in that instance.

Americans are going to be in for a rude awakening when they realize how boring the NHL is when Trump isnt the reason for the hype.
whatever[1].gif

I think, ideally, I'd want a best-on-best every three or four years.

I wouldn't mind epic hockey every year, but I also want best-on-best to remain a bit special.
Pretty much this. I wish Bettman would've just let the guys play in the previous few Olympics. Would've been nice to see McDavid and MacKinnon play with a younger Crosby

I'll get grilled for this, but I think mackinnon is the best in the game right now. He brings a physical element that I don't think McDavid ever will. McDavid obviously is more skilled, but Mack just has this bull in a china shop ability that's so unique.

If I was in game 7 and had to pick one guy to get it done, I would pick Mack. Who ever would have thought he would reach this level with the way his career started?

Raising the cup ceremony was bad. I don't even know why they did that. Just give the medals like they do in the Olympics/World Championships and then get a photo with the trophy.

This was never billed as an All Star game.

Your 2nd paragraph say's it all....

The players didn't really seem to endorse it either. They just barely lifted the cup and passed it on to the next guy.
