If you mean the Political garbage going on, that can't be thrown at the feet of the players.

But good to know I'm not the only one hoping for no more injuries.

Two of our guys (Bratt, Haula) escaped.

Now it's Jack's turn.

Not to mention it would be a massive distraction to an event that should be solely about HOCKEY, not Politics.

Case in point :

Good.

Keep the focus on HOCKEY, not Politics.
Yes. Famously the greatest moment in American hockey had absolutely nothing to do with politics. :sarcasm:

As much as I have loved the tournament I really don’t want a World Cup every four years. That seems excessive. I would do it every eight years or something like that. Having an international event every two years would water down both.

The other option is doing a World Cup every four years and not bother with the Olympics. That way the NHL would have more control and input for it. Or vice versa and just do the Olympics every four years but actually commit to that consistently.

I say this all as a huge fan of this tournament and I was excited from when they first announced it. I certainly don’t think this is meaningless to the majority of hockey fans. Everyone is talking about it and it hasn’t disappointed one bit.

I'd love it every four years but I'm not sure if the novelty might wear off for casual fans. I'm just trying to think of how I felt back in the day:

1996 World Cup: Definitely eye opening for me as a young fan
1998 Olympics: Because of the time difference and school, I don't remember being able to watch any of it
2002 Olympics: Being in Utah helped a bunch and I watched most of the US games despite needing to concentrate on school
2004 World Cup: I was excited but I don't think my buddies were into it. Maybe the looming lockout was an elephant in the room.

I would second your thinking but to further skip the Olympics if they aren’t played in a tv friendly time zone. Tape delayed sucks and no one going to watch games played at 7am here outside the hardcore. 8 years for strictly World Cup is too long

Hockeys always going to be the fourth out of four but it's not such a massive gap anymore I'd imagine. It's still a big gap but not as big.

What really stunted hockey was leaving espn whatever you think about them going to the OLN was a complete joke. Also wouldn’t hurt them if their stars didn’t play outside of America and not prime time not that they can do anything about that.

Sounds like Fitz took the medical staff with him.

(I know it's Minnesotas, it was a joke)
First I think it’s stupid that active gms are national gms too id even go further and say coaches shouldn’t be active either but that is eh. I’d love to hear from the player about this. Did he press the issue and not want to miss Saturday’s game? Did he downplay the injury initially or is it something that just was innocently overlooked? Find it hard to believe usa pulled a varsity blues move

Also how does one team send its own medical staff for the country? You would think usa would have their own team staff

Canucks seem to be playing with fire here by not allowing Quinn to go to the game tonight. Sounds like he wanted to go even if he was not going to be able to play.
I'm in a Discord for a Canucks podcast and someone thinks that this might lead to Quinn leaving in UFA. Two years is a lot of time and this will probably look like a minor thing over that time, but I'm always pulling for the Hughes reunion.

Speaking of a Hughes brother, Wyshynski staying true to his "glass half empty" Devils fandom by saying that Jack is one of his biggest disappointments of the tournament, along with Adam Fox.

Certainly doesn't seem to help their chances of extending Hughes, though is probably a minor part of the equation when all is said and done. There's already the whole Miller/Pettersson rift - now Miller is gone, Boeser may follow him via UFA and Pettersson currently seems like a shell of his former self. Quinn is still signed for another two seasons after this one, so it's probably at least a year off (maybe next year's TDL if Canucks are out of a playoff spot) before they really need to seriously consider trading him.

Jack has definitely been a disappointment this tournament, though maybe not to the level some are criticizing him. He seems to be really going out of the way to avoid contact (hopefully not related to any injury) and seems to be dishing the puck rather early as well. Still, I don't think he's been awful. I thought the line of Hughes - Matthews - Guentzel looked good game 1 though against Finland. I think Jack was also 3rd in TOI last game against Sweden.

At the very least, this should be a good experience for Jack to see just how intense high level games can get (though he has experienced that in the playoffs, particularly game 7 versus the Rangers). Curious to see how the lines look for tonight - I think USA has a practice at 10:30, so we should know soon.

Can't wait for the game tonight, though I'll have to wait a bit longer...my older son has a baseball lesson from 8:00-9:00 tonight (no idea what my wife was thinking there) and he's been really into this tournament (has his own USA playlist he's been listening to), so we agreed to not check our phones after 8:00 so we can head home and watch on DVR and hopefully catch up live by the end.

It's a lot more fun for this tournament being able to fully root for Team USA given they have a Devil on the team, whereas in the past when you had Brodeur, Niedermayer & Stevens playing for Team Canada I was more rooting for their individual play.

they are kidding themselves if they even remotely think hes staying there. can't say i blame them i too was once innocent. if the canucks were smart they would look to deal him to anyone and get the most they can longer they wait the less they will get.

Games really haven't been starting till like 8:20 so you'll easily catch up fast forwarding commericals and intermission bs

Yeah, but they also can't just blow up the team and deal Miller, Pettersson and Hughes all in one season.

Maybe they look to move Quinn this offseason, depending on how this season turns out and what happens with Pettersson and Boeser (among others), but I think more likely they try do what they can to make this team competitive around Hughes for another season before considering moving him.

Yeah, that is certainly the hope!

From a production stance, I can understand why some would be disappointed with Jack but I think he's played a pretty solid complete game during the tournament. With him largely playing wing to Matthews and Guentzel, two guys whose biggest strengths are shooting the puck, I'm not surprised at all to see him being the one trying to defer more often than not. And I've been pleasantly surprised with his defensive game as well.

Correct me too if I'm wrong, he hasn't been on PP1 either right?

I think he was on PP1 against Sweden due to injuries, but not in the other two games.

His defensive game has been good as you mentioned. Some of his passes have been a bit off as well, but I don't think he's been that bad overall.

I think he was PP1 last game.

He had a bunch of shots last game. He's definitely avoiding contact, I'm fine with that, and he had a sloppy game 2 with some passes to nowhere but he's also been involved in a ton of chances.
