I don't know what hired gun they have coaching for Finland in this tournament. It's probably Ralph Kruger and Ted Nolan coaching Sweden and Finland I'm not sure which guy is coaching what team. I'm just making a joke about how they had those guys coaching European national teams in past tournaments.

But the guys coaching for Finland are DOLTS for not making a goalie change.

You could argue that they probably should have given Juuse another shot today. Lankinen wasn't good against Sweden.
I had to look up who the Sweden and Finland coaches were, never heard of either

Tuukka Rask is starting to look like Ray Liotta in his post-playing days lol. Even he's criticizing Lankinen without throwing him under the bus too badly.

He says he'd be surprised if they didn't make a goalie change to start the 2nd.

The last goal was scored with 7 minutes left in the period. I'm not sure they're going to pull unless he gives up another.

They're outside guys from their countries. I wasn't sure if they were gonna assign some of the leftover North American coaches to handle those teams (only because it's an NHL tournament) or possibly even a native like Ruutu, who is an NHL assistant.

I think Daniel Alfredsson is on the Swedish staff. I don't think he's a coach in Ottawa, he was for a little last year when they had their O. Bench staff with Jacques Martin post-DJ Smith firing. Maybe he did return as an assistant this year? Or maybe he's just in management like Marty is here.

Anyway, in past year they did have guys like Ralph Kruger coaching Team Europe at the 2016 world cup of hockey. And I think Ted Nolan was coaching Latvia at one of the Olympics. I think Ted Nolan was the coach when Latvia almost upset Canada in that 2014 game in Sochi.

Even that goal wasn't good, but it was probably the most forgivable of all 4 goals on him because it was one timed.

But it was from an angle and it might have even leaked through him.

This game might not end 10-0 now, but I'm thinking 6 or 7-0 is probably reasonable.

The US was looking shaky against the Finns for a while too.
Really? I don't think they did at any point.

I guess the score was close for a while.

The goal on Hellebuyck in that game was pretty weak and it put Finland up 1-0. I don't think the US ever looked shaky against them though. Unless going down 1-0 and not blowing them out the entire game is considered shaky.

its funny most hockey fans want fighting out of the game but the casual fans absolutely love it when its not staged and i dont think that was staged.
I'm not sure this is accurate. I'd agree that the staged nonsense is removable and when someone gets jumped for having a clean hard hit. Fighting in general though has its place in the game.

Giving up that breakout pass to McDavid was the death blow for that 1st goal and the game.

They should have pulled the goalie after the 2nd one. It looked a little like Gustavsson in one of the earlier SWE games, goalie was very shaky.

That mistake was brutal, not sure how much Finland would have survived if they didn't give up that goal, but it was such a silly mistake and immediately jumpstarted Canada.

I think the fighting is a curiosity. My kids and their friends will watch if it comes up but by and large they are more interested in the highlight reel goals. In today's world kids can watch MMA events to get their fill of violence if they so choose. I doubt removal of fighting would change much about the game beyond the last player on the bench. Instead of MacDermid it would be a smaller skilled player most likely. I'd like to see the casual hits in the back and alll the clutching and grabbing taken out of the game more than the fighting. What all of this tells us is the game is refereed poorly. Whether by design or incompetence I am not sure.

Shocked it wasn't a shutout.

At least Saros still has a chance at the shutout though!:sarcasm:

And yeah, Finland is totally using the sound clip of the Meadowlands goal horn in this tournament. I saw someone else mention it. I never really noticed the horn until just now. And that's definitely it.

Binnington playing behind the best defense he'll ever play behind in his life and still only an .892% in this tournament.

Pretty nearly close to his NHL numbers for like 2 of the last 3 seasons.

I give him credit because he don't really suck any worse playing behind the Blues (who their fans would have you believe is the worst defense in the history of hockey every time someone badmouths Binnington) than he does playing for Team Canada.

I think only the first goal on Binnington was bad, but he looked like he was gonna shut them out with like 6 minutes left in the game and I think that not great goal that looked like some of the ones Lankinen was letting in started to open the flood gates for Finland.

Canadian fans on the mainboard not happy with Binnington.

I think one poster called him HasBinnington.

I think of him as more of a never-was than a has-been.

He's basically Jose Theodore. Jose Theodore had the Hart Vezina year, Binnington had the cup year. Is Binnington's cup heavier than Theodore's Hart and Vezina year? Sure. But kind of similar careers with a very extreme peak.

Binnington's just came in his rookie year. Jose had been around a few years before his VeziHart year.

Both had other solid seasons in the league, but there was never a time where either were looked at as among best goalie in the league, other than coming off their highs.
