Loading McDavid and MacKinnon on the same line makes zero sense.

1) They are the top 2 centers on the team and should be used as such.
2) They are both player drivers and puck carriers
3) Having all that explosive speed on one line is not as good as having it on the ice for 40 mins of the game.
4) Crosby and MacKinnon already have loads of chemistry from years and years of training together.

Load up ocassionally throughout the game maybe, but regular shifts they should he apart which is why they are.
That's all true. But those two are the most dangerous in the game and play the same speed. If they gel together and their line can pot 2-3 goals a game then a way you go. Crosby and Point can hold down the fort. Never know.

I think they’re letting McDavid go wild hoping he can either score or set one up and using Marner as a defensive safety net.
Sure seemed that way.

My theory is not that big of a stretch. The US would likely prefer to play Sweda in the championship game and maybe they have a slight letdown after beating Canada.

And yes, teams can beat teams that beat teams that beat them.
We barely beat Sweden in overtime.

I would expect the US team to be up for Canada. If they win that game they could be a bit complacent against Sweden, but if they lose to Canada, desperate. So I can see it happen.

If the game is a battle of star power I’ll take the Canadian superstars led by Sid McDavid Mac and Makar over Tkachuk Fox Eichel Conner any day of the week, especially without Hughes. If it’s a grinding game I give a slight edge to the depth of the US mainly because they’re more apt to score a soft one on the Canadian goalie, despite Hellebuyck’s history.

Canada went big game goalie and the US went best goalie in the league with a checkered big game past.

Binner was shaky at times but came up big in the third and OT allowing Canada to secure the win.

We don't necessarily lose the goalie battle, despite the disadvantage on paper.

Is Binnington a big game goalie or just streaky? He's had some great runs, but also some brutal playoffs

I think so. Goalie stats are largely driven by the team in front of them, but he championed an underdog to the cup and in his last playoffs it looked like he was going to steal the series for the Blues over the eventual cup winner until he got injured. That's pretty good.

So he has it in him, just need to get it now. Does Helly have it in him? Probably, but maybe not?

Are you excited about the 4 nations cup?

You think it is important to have international competition in the middle of regular season?

You find it gimmicky and don't see the reason for it to be held during regular season?

You are indifferent?

Something else (Other):???

Just curious what the consensus is among the Leafs Board. I personally am not too excited about it, find no reason to hold in in the middle of the regular season and then condense the regular season to fit 82 games + AllStar and have playoffs done by June.

What about you?
What all star game

Not saying it as a huge endorsement of Binnington, but's rare to get one of these kind of Patrick Roy type snap shows in net. Think the challenge with him is reigning in that intensity. He's won higher stakes before.

Yep, last game he came up clutch during clutch time. It was a good win for him.

I wonder if they test Hill as well before choosing, but so far we're in decent shape.

I wouldn't mess around with sneaking time in for Adin Hill. He's not a young Brodeur or a young Luongo ready to blossom into superstardom. I think of him as a product of Vegas goalie, and this Team Canada is not built to give him that kind of redwood forest and heavy layers of forecheck protection. We're going to be trading chances.
