GDT: #4 - || Devils @ Canucks || PART II

the D is the problem, and its the same D as last year. thats a problem.

plus, Pete's lineup decisions are ALWAYS controversial.

I am not worried about the offense.

Yea with the exception of the opener the offense has not been an issue

We weren't winning last year because we couldn't score, this year we've lost 3 games when we scored at least 2 goals

Has a coach ever actually been traded in the NHL? It seems to happen in the NFL every now and again - Herm Edwards for one. Parcells and Belichick were essentially traded (seems as if the Jets were involved in most of these come to think of it). Even Don Shula was 'traded' way back when or at least the Dolphins wound up compensating the Colts I think.

Don't remember too many instances of it in baseball except Lou Pinella when he went to Tampa...and Gil Hodges with the Mets way back when.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, Keenan was traded for Petr Nedved - sort of lmao.

The Celtics traded their head coach to the Clippers for a first round pick.

What's weird is that we have the exact same cast as last year, outisde of Fayne being our #7 in favour of Harrold.

To be fair, the forwards aren't helping their d a lot this year either. Loktionov and Brunner are constantly a mess in their own end and the forwards were not slowing the other team down at all through the neutral zone through the first handful of games.

Still the likes of Volchenkov and Larsson and Harrold need to play better. Hell even Greene hasn't been a rock we have come to see in the past year or two. Hopefully they get into gear sooner than later.

I have a feeling that once the Devils start playing better Defensively, the issue of not scoring will creep up again.

The Devils could never seem to have BOTH at the same time. It's either "play good defensively but not score" or "score like crazy but give up a bunch of goals due to bad 'D'".

I know it's reaaaaaal early in the season but I'm just scared at the backlash our organisation will suffer if ever we have to forfeit a top #10 pick.

We've been labeled as a boring and circumventing hockey team for several years now and no one is giving the New Jersey Devils the respect they deserve with what they've done over the past two decades.

Having to give up a high pick, in Philly no less, would give this franchise another black eye.

I may be in the minority, but I still think SOMETHING happens with that pick. Whether it be the league rescinds the penalty, makes it a lesser penalty, extends it out a few more years, etc.

Exactly, couldn't agree more on all counts.

You're definitely in the minority....of you being the only person who thinks that.

Would be nice if Bettman threw us a bone this year but I'm not going to hold my breath.

But what I can say is that Lou is not going to have much patience with Pete if the Devils do not start getting wins. Yes they have gained a point in all their games so far but 81 points(if they continue in that regards) won't get them into the postseason as the 8th seed(I'm thinking 90+).

Sergei Fedorov coming out of retirement in Russia. Alert to Devils: Sign him. Another old guy you can dress over a young player.

haha even TG sees it.

Poor Teddy, at this rate he'll be Federov's age when he fully cracks the lineup full time. :shakehead

TG ain't exactly wrong...three of our last six first rounders are sitting upstairs eating pizza.

pretty much par for the course for tg. right or wrong is irrelevant- thats a pretty borderline comment for a journalist. but it pales in comparison to the 'lights out' blog, and considering the great coverage tg gives us, its a fair trade off IMO
