While I wouldn't call Krejci's contract "good", he's only got 4 years left, and there are absolutely worse contracts.

Loui Eriksson and Andrew Ladd just to name two from this past summer.

Dustin Brown's doesn't look to be very good right now, although he's played better this season.

Perhaps you would like to swap Krejci's contract for Dan Girardi's?

Shoot, I think Backes contract is worse than Krejci's.

As it stands now... players who will be protected

Bergeron
Krejci
Backes
Spooner
Beleskey
Pastrnak
Nash
Chara
Krug
K Miller
Rask

Exposed for the draft....

Hayes, Schaller, Ferlin, Randall, Hargrove, Mcquaid, Miller, Morrow, Arnesson, Casto, Subban, Khudobin

I'm not sure I agree on Nash vs Schaller. And, to a lesser degree, Colin vs Kevan.

I agree. Schaller is strong defensively and has more offensive prowess than Nash. Definitely got to protect C. over K. Better skater, harder shot, improving defensively, cheaper and younger. K's contract is too much for too long. But I know, if the decisions were Clode's, he'd want Kevan.

Said this before, I think you need to protect Colin over Kevan, because Vegas is way more likely to take Colin. Protecting him means protecting both, protecting kevan means losing Colin

I protect neither of those two. I'd protect c miller of k miller. and as for nash I consider offering moore a quick 1 year deal for next year and protect him instead, nash isn't worth protecting...you're also missing marchand.

If Sweeney protect either K.Miller or McQuaid, he should be fired on the spot.

Unless the Bruins acquire a good D that needs to be protected, these three should be the protected D for the draft:

Chara
Krug
C.Miller

Why is it the dumbest idea?

Not Krejci per se, but a player with an unfavorable contract, gives the ok to be made available on the waiver, with the idea that they likely won't get picked up.

That said, I don't think they'd do that. But any long-term contract can start to look ugly. Krejci is no different. Vegas MAY not want to invest long term in a guy that's gonna be pushing mid-late 30's at the end of the contract.

Early rumors are that they wouldn't and they'll probably start as a budget team building their way out via drafting. It's another warm weather market with no core fans yet, it's going to be a slow process for them to start. Probably want flexibility where you can and a young dynamic core you draft.

I hope they protect neither.

Chara
Krug
C.Miller

Ditto. Although with the way the team is rolling, C. Miller isn't even in the line up when the team is healthy (not my choice, but that's the way it is).

One of K. Miller or McQuaid needs to be gone after the expansion. I honestly don't care who, just one of them. I think K. Miller is a better overall hockey player (better IQ, better skater), but McQuaid is more of a fan favorite and better fighter.

There's no excuse for paying almost 2.5-3 million each for TWO bottom pair RH defensemen.
