GDT: 4/14/25 6pm Hawks @ Habs CHSN

If the FO stays patient enough to be in the McKenna race, land a blue chip forward prospect this draft and make a run to sign Marner this summer we'll be happy to have the defense and goalie situation basically set...the Demidov discussion will not really matter...then you still have your Lardis, Boisvert type lotto tickets coming

Earlier in the season I actually found it easier to harp on Bedard for his poor play…simply because who else was there to be excited about? What positives were there to focus on?

But now…having seen what we’ve seen recently from Nazar and Rinzel and Lev and everyone else…if you’re still primarily focusing on Bedards struggles then that’s on you for going out of your way to be miserable.

IMO there’s just far too much good stuff developing right now before our eyes to be worried about 98.

Yes and no.

I've had to listen to some games lately on the radio while traveling and it's more annoying to hear Bedard's name last on a possession touch to the point where it's almost expected more often than not. Not trying to be negative but it's a fair observation regardless of the stats. Everyone wants him to be the best player on the team.

I mean... not really. He's playing passably above average as a 19 year old. It's kind of silly comparing a forward to D anyway. Goalies take 5 years, D take 3-4, Forwards can step right in. That's the standard. We're comparing apples to oranges.
He's most definitely not playing above average. I'm not a big +/- guy but Arty's is horrendous. A -15 in 16 games is impressively bad. Compare that to Rinzel who is +2 in in 7 games, which matches the eye test.

I realize he's very young and defenseman take a long time to develop and I'm not down on him I have very high hopes, but again he has a LONG way to go. He does some things really well but he's overall a net negative at the moment.

Like half of those dashes are ENG. He has a lot to iron out but he is well ahead of where I expected him to be at this stage

He’s not an elite player as of right now.
Right now as in the month of April, I agree. Right now as in this season, I don't agree.

As bad as he has often looked this season, he's had two consecutive seasons where he put up over 60pts as a teenager on the 2nd worst team in the league. And he is top 10 in primary assists at even strength, so his playmaking abilities are there.

He needs to work on his stamina, work on his explosiveness, and needs to round out his shooting ability (stop relying almost exclusively on his wrister and learn to score with his one-timer, slapper, backhand, etc). But his playmaking, even as a young 19yo, is elite.

After the Hagel and Nazar takes I have just no credibility. I will still give my opinions but I think I said that I piggyback on those I have access to that watch games.
Dude, just relax and stop beating yourself up. Very few of us here have any real credibility, if we did we’d be doing this professionally and not jacking around on a message board.

Some people here know some stuff, but that doesn’t mean you need to beat yourself up for not knowing all they know.

Wow, those Habs fans post game:

Time to address the elephant in the room. Nazars goal shouldn’t have counted and Laine should have gotten as many extra attempts needed until he scored.

Just kidding

Pretty funny seeing Habs fans mad about the shootout last night, claiming that Nazar's goal shouldn't have counted and/or Laine should have been able to shoot again. Not like there is any flow of play to disrupt in a shootout, each attempt is an entirely discrete event.
Imagine the reverse situation and the Hawks can re-take their attempt because of a mistake by the refs. They would have burned the place down, yet that’s apparently what should have been the ruling yesterday 🙄

It's been so long since the Habs were a good team, I've forgotten how obnoxious they are as a fanbase. They're seriously worse than Vancouver fans were during the rivalry days.

Rinzel and Levshunov. Were on to something. Nazars best game as a Blackhawk. Has looked great for the last 15-20.

Bertuzzi and Teravainen played some good hockey today. Crevier is pretty freakin solid.

Bedard is just hanging on to the puck for way to long. I am glad that he is still just trying to constantly make plays still. I dont want him to be gun shy. It will all come along.

Demidov looked so dangerous tonight. Good for the Habs. Still not worried about taking Levshunov over him.

I dont really know why its a straight blackhawks passed over Demidov and nobody mentions Anaheim or Columbus. Did he say he wouldnt go there? Or just because the hawks were rumored.

Great night of hockey. The refs were terribly slanted Montreal's way and they still came out on top.

Lane Hutson looked like Bedard as a defenseman last night. Im not sure if thats good or bad.

Still remember during our cup years they spammed the main boards trying to talk up Galchenyuk, McCarron being a future 1C, Desharnais Pacioretty Vanek being the best first line in the league and so on. Even Toronto fans had more humility

Remember they wanted Chara arrested and thrown in prison?
