This entire off season has been a horror show as far as our D is concerned in terms of the discussions. Our defense is good but a lot of that had to do with Torts's and Sully's insistence on playing fundamental defense. Each player played defense first and did so every shift. Whether or not that created problems with screening and collapse defense and PK is another thing. If we expect an improvement with the offense, we also need to consider the defense dropping. The love for stralman over DZ and keeping Stralman over Girardi over $2.5M - $3.0M is really sounding like people are having unrealistic expectations for our defense.

How does anyone from Vancouver wind up rooting for the Rangers? Are you related to Glenn Anderson or something?

Again Tortorella had the team playing to its strengths. Starts with the goaltender. The Rangers forward personnel is kind of blah especially if Richards is going to play the way he has. Even Nash has never really been a point per game player. Why would he start now? For some reason you think AV is going to change things drastically. Maybe you're right but I don't think so. We don't have Sedin's. We don't have someone like Kessler to support them. We don't have a pwp qb with a scary shot. The forward personnel is not there and the $ it would take to get them are not there either.

Want extra? We're going to have to wait and see how Kreider, Miller, Lindberg, Kristo and Fasth turn out. They're really what's on the horizon but none of them are probably going to be huge point producers either. Lundqvist turned into a superstar. After him in all the intervening years the biggest impact players to come along were Staal and McDonagh--defensemen. That's the way it's shaken down. You play the cards you're dealt.
