You wanted a 3C and a Top/Middle 6 winger and I gave you a salary neutral offer of two players that were KEY COGS in TWO ECF finals and you treat them like your garbage defensemen contracts as Cap dumps.

And Coe hasn't done a thing yet in the NHL and you think he's worth EITHER of them by himself?

This is a HOCKEY TRADE offer. We need to readjust our forwards towards more goal scoring and away from assists and Pageau (who played a Top 6 role for the Ottawa team that last made a playoff run successfully) is a trade from a position of strength from the Isles, not a Cap Dump. Take out Coe, he won't move the needle anyhow. Beauvillier is a perfect 2nd/3rd tweener at only 24 years old, how you call him a cap dump when you look at what Lebanc produced for $600K more is absurd versus AB's numbers.

While Pageau and Beauvillier are not cap dumps, it's still a terrible trade for San Jose to make. Pageau is a year older, and significant downgrade skillwise than Hertl. Adding a 3C, and a 2/3W would be nice....but when you consider we then need to find a 1C (much harder to find) and lose out on a good looking prospect and a 2nd round pick it makes no sense for San Jose at all.

The whole point of the OP was using the thinking that San Jose wants to compete. If anything, this trade makes them worse, and in a worse place to compete (while also adding a 2nd round pick) and downgrading prospects.

I think there’s also a chance they can use the goalie to get a winger. I don’t think the goalie movement and bringing in a forward is mutually exclusive.

For whatever reason the Sharks are trying to compete. The team had huge struggles though offensively. Bringing in a couple new forwards to help compete with the younger guys could be a good way to kickstart that. Basically a couple guys around Barabanov level.

Maybe there’s a deal with Detroit who seems to need a backup pretty bad around Reimer and Suter/Veleno with various pluses.

Any other ideas? Trying to look for guys who could potentially be available to fill these.

Might not be but we'll see. It's tough to get a real read on what Joe Will wants to do and/or what the new GM will want to do. The talks about Burns and Karlsson being talked about could also be what gets them a winger. Typically, a winger can be had any number of ways as there's always a quantity of them available. It's just a matter of who will fit and for what? In the Sharks situation, they don't necessarily even need to go out and get a winger since they have a lot that they could try next season. There's too much up in the air right now to have much certainty about movement right now.

Yep agreed. Our PK is already pretty good but I like the winning face off aspect and I think he’d be a good fit with some of our wingers. I figured offering a player cause as you said he was underutilized and didn’t really impress in the playoffs. I wouldn’t offer much more than a 3rd for him pick wise but would be interested in Balcers or Labanc for him.

As much as I’d love Garland, that’s probably shooting too high for us and Dickinson isn’t of interest. He’s not better than what they roll out on their fourth line.

Don't think the Sharks would have much interest in Dickinson unless Simek is going the other way. I think Garland straight for the 11th pick is probably fair value which I would consider but adding Dickinson into that equation is not a good add for the Sharks.
