Maybe. To me he’s always had a wrong instinct for passing but I agree that’s worse right now. Injury, confidence, coaching, sulkiness? I dunno.

People are getting mad about this but I’m not saying he’s a bust or something, I think he’ll be fine and I wouldn’t make that call this early. I’m just pointing out that he sucks right now and I think that blaming Killorn (or Leason or Gauthier or whoever else he’s with) doesn’t get at the root of it. He might have another point or two here or there but he’d still be throwing the puck away for no reason and losing battles he should win.
Agree to disagree re: the bolded. There's definitely been some problem spots with his passing in his career so far, but considering how many passes he's been able to execute in tight and under pressure on rough angles, I don't buy that he doesn't have the ability or has the wrong instinct. Before I'd have chalked it up to timing and lack of experience and I still think that's an inherent issue, but lately it seems like his tendency is greater to try to force/rush plays without considering his options first, which from my point of view is not normal for him. Which is why my theory is he's playing frustrated. I mean shit, I could be wrong, but I've seen Leo pull off smart and skilled passes enough times that I can't agree with the bolded take.

I would agree that he's losing puck battles and would agree if that includes trying to bull past multiple defenders. Whatever offseason training he did improved his first steps acceleration issue but he's clearly not filled into his frame and not as strong as you'd want for a guy attempting power forward plays.

But the thing about "blaming" Killorn, I mean...I already explained that extensively above. I don't think the "root" is Killorn's poor puck management just like I don't think Leo's own individual mistakes are the "root." I don't think there's one "root" cause of his lacking performance, I think it's a number of factors. It's both, and it's potentially confidence, health, frustration, could even be lack of proper coaching targeted at getting him to adapt his approach. I don't know because I can't get in Leo's head and I can't watch what happens at practice.

What I do know is that Killorn is someone I don't want playing with any of our young forwards who are still developing. It's not just Carlsson, I bring it up re: Carlsson because that's the kid who's been stuck with him. But I don't want Killorn with Gauthier, I don't want him with McTavish, I don't want him with Zegras. At this point, I think Killorn would be best suited as a fourth liner who gets PK time where he plays his most useful hockey. As a player on a "scoring" line, he's a liability.

The question isn't how many more points would Leo have if he was partnered with someone better than Killorn. It's not about that. I want Leo to get out of his rut and work towards meeting his potential. With a kid who just turned 20, who is clearly struggling with his own puck management issues, it's that much harder for said kid to get opportunities to try new approaches in the offensive zone to fine tune his own mistakes when the veteran on his line (who in a normal situation would be there to stabilize things for the kid) is constantly turning the puck over and mishandling passes from the kid. As I said, it's more than just raw points. The line's puck possession is that much worse because of Killorn's near constant mismanagement of the puck. So instead of honing his offensive game, Leo spends more time than any other young forward we have chasing the puck in the neutral and defensive zones. This isn't conducive to proper development. Of course Leo's own mistakes are contributing to the problem. It would be insane to suggest otherwise. But, in my view, Killorn has the worst puck management of any skater on this team not named Johnston and it's making the problem worse.

Maybe Killorn is getting the Rookie LaCombe treatment to where we exacerbate his mistakes while glossing over everyone else's mistakes. Killorn is one of our top-5 scorers on the team and leads the team in +/- with a +4 rating, tied with LaCombe.

CF% at ES
Carlsson = 45.2%
Killorn = 51.7%

Killorn isn't a center and can't impart knowledge onto Carlsson like Rico did for Carlsson last year. Their chemistry is off, but so is whoever is on Mac's line save Fabbri. Both our young centers have taken steps backwards this season.

Killer has been fine for his contract, so far, 1.5 season in imho.They also say he’s a leader in the room to boot. He always seems to be hustling. He isn’t fast God knows, but he shows up and tries his best.

To me the biggest difference is how quickly move the puck and that we make tape to tape passes. Our transition game went from pee wee league to elite very fast.

I like killorn I like Carlson I just don’t like them together. Carlson seems like he is best paired with fast skilled players. Killer just isn’t that at this point in his career.

Out Carlson with zegras/fabbri/mac/gauthier and i think we will see Magic.

Maybe a Gleason killorn Mac line can do something?

Don't you bastards make me walk back my (numerous) derogatory comments about Cronin
I'm not giving credit to Cronin for having the top 2 GSAx/60 goalies in the league and the leagues worst expected goals against, he was also brought in primarily to develop the younger players and I have not been impressed to say the least. With goalies like Gibson and Dostal we'd be winning games with a carnival mime behind the bench.

Not the best played game, but a win is a win, great job Gibby for winning this one. Leo's growing pains are pretty obvious, but I think (and hope) it's all it is and he will be fine. Can't wait for Z to be back.

A mime might be better, we wouldn't have to hear "I don't know" ever again.

It hasn’t been that way lately though. Our numbers are skewed from a miserable start saved by our goalies. While they are still winning us games we are doing a lot more to help them out. Still getting out chanced and out shot at times but we have good goalies, which is good.
