Provorovs rise to #1 defensemen at 19 years old

If Stolarz starts for the Flyers, it will be the first time ever that a goalie born in NJ played an NHL game in NJ

Can the Devils respond to the criticism thrown their way by their GM yesterday?

Does Ghostbear continue to suck on the 1st unit powerplay?

Does rookie phenom Provorov further heap the pressure on Ghostbear by playing amazingly?

Does Hakstol finally give Provorov a chance on the struggling 1st unit powerplay?

Seriously tho Flyers fans, is that last one a possibility at some point this season if both these two players' trends continue? And if it does happen does Provorov run with it?

So the Ghost exaggerations continue.

Great.

Well he looked pretty sucky last night and the powerplay has been strugggglllliinng and it's not like he was ligting it up on there before when it was hot...

If he can't produce on the powerplay or at least make things happen, then why is he even out there on that unit with Provorov playing so well?

Ghost is scoring at an almost identical rate 5v4 as he did last year...

4.27 P/60 last year
4.26 P/60 this year

And our #1 PP unit has been the most productive in the NHL so far.

Giroux: 1st in NHL PP pts
Simmonds: 3rd in NHL PP pts
Schenn: Joint 7th in NHL PP pts
Voracek: Joint 7th in NHL PP pts
Ghost: 10th amongst NHL Dmen in PP pts

It is at 5v5 his scoring has dropped... even though his SF/60 and CF/60 are far better than last year. But his on ice sh% is unsustainably low.

He wasn't bad last night and the PP is just on a cold streak. It happens. I know most people think that PPs are supposed to be guaranteed goals and freak out if they don't score, but in reality the best PPs are usually around 25%.

When it's on fire he's a huge part of it, whether he's the one scoring the goals or not. Even if it's just because he opens up room for Giroux and Voracek since PK units need to focus on him.

The 2nd unit has been struggggglllllling much more than the top unit.

That isn't Provorov's fault, it's been an issue for years, but he hasn't done anything on the PP to earn a promotion yet. And Ghost hasn't earned a demotion.

I am curious, is there any data regarding penalties per period. I was wondering about the distribution of penalties league-wide during a game.

Ghost is one of the main reasons PP1 is effective. The extra attention the PK has to pay to him has given Giroux and Voracek more space. It has also made it difficult for him to uncork his slapshot, but that doesn't matter if the unit gets a goal from someone else. Hockey is a team sport.

Agreed. Ghost quarterbacks the **** out of the PP. He is amazing at keeping the puck in too.

Pretty funny.....Ghost struggling in the PP....yet only 9 Dmen have more points than him.

I can not believe how much CSN pimps the Eagles..an hour an a half pre-game show for a lousy late December game and the Flyers get sent to the kiddie station ..CSN needs to just make an all Eagles station already and give back CSN to sports
